Hi, everyone! I am Aniruddh, and I am new around here. I am in Mahabalipuram at the Global Learning Festival, learning, sharing, documenting and translating. Since so many of you could not make it here and are eager to know what is going on, I thought I’d share with you some of my notes from Day 3 of the event.
We started the day with the appreciation of good music. Alli Sudar, a visually challenged artist, played a short melody on his flute, thus setting the right mood for…

In early 2012, a group from the Global Support Team came together to see how we could help equip Constellation members to carry out fundraising to fund their travel and attendance at the Global Learning Festival. One of our strategies was to encourage groups to come together and hold creative fundraising events - anything ranging from dinners to fun runs to flash mobs!
We were lucky enough to come across Michael, an artist based in UK who had a dream to build his first…

I was contacted by Eva-Lena, who comes from a community of 800 people living in a rural village in the Arctic Circle, in Sweden.
It's hard to write an intro to such an incredible video except to say - be warned... YOU WILL BE INSPIRED AND ENERGISED! What a community!
The community are not yet members of NING, but have said that they'll join us very soon. I promised to share this blog for the Global Learning Festival so that we can start some dialogue with…

First over....how do we behave as Facilitator???
Do not assume, however, that we can get prepared "once and for all." We facilitators are continually learning more and more ....... It is a never ending process, and we will be doomed to failure if we ever think we know it all and it has a big impact on how the Community gonna act.
When we start talking about community problems, and asking what their priority problems are, there will be a tendency to assume that we are there to…

We would have wanted to fly to India and be part of the fun in the Global Learning Event, but fund constraints will not stop us from sharing with you our experience. Here are some lessons from PinoyC (this is our group's nickname). This is a compressed version of our journey so if you are interested to know more, give us a shout. The development of this presentation, is a journey and a wonderful realization in itself. Through the years, it felt like the group was going thinner and thinner…

We discussed how facilitators from diffferent approaches facilitate and encourage communtiies to take action on issues of their concern and how community life competence approach can learn from others experiences and improve on it. 130 people shared in 10 different languages.
The highlight for me was when a private sector participant said- I had forgotten that I was a human being in corporate settings…

Sometime back Rituu and I connected, and are now in ongoing conversations about a variety of things. I'm with Axiom News, which is very interested in strengths-based community thriving, so that's one of our connect points. A group of us, including Rituu, are also now looking at the possibilities around co-creating a life-giving news network for and with renewed and thriving youth worldwide, which is very exciting. But the reason I'm posting today is Rituu invited me awhile back to post a…

Red Ribbon Clubs gear up for upcoming World AIDS Campaign.
Every day 2400 young people aged 15 to 24 are infected with HIV around the globe, which represents 40% of all new infections among adults. “Getting to Zero” the theme of World AIDS Campaign echoes the UNAIDS vision of achieving “Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths.” Under this the key goal is to halve new infections among youth by 2015 for which the AIDS control programme aims…

I use my How Matters YouTube channel to highlight portrayals of international assistance that inspire more nuanced conversations about the politics of global development and international aid. Frankly though, there’s not enough content to keep that page very active. Very few video-based products show people grappling with the realities of programming on the ground and the stories of grassroots change-makers too often remain…

Without sounding ungrateful one wonders if aid agencies or development partners are as effective in helping Third World countries in their course towards sustainable development. In Swaziland it began as an emergency response where food aid is concerned, but it later became an annual event. Some communities have become perpetual beneficiaries of food aid despite having received good rains, farm inputs, etc. They simply will not apply any effort towards producing their own food. This has…
