My name is Yousuf, and today I want to share a story of my own—one that has both sadness and inspiration. From a young age, seeing the different struggles people around me faced, I often thought, "If I could do something for them, how great would that be!" Though I had the desire, somehow I could never act on it. To be honest, I’m a bit of a lazy person, and…

Every human is born with immense potential, yet many cannot fully realize it due to a lack of opportunities. Sometimes, a few encouraging words and some motivation can awaken a person’s hidden talents. I have a story that reflects this idea.
Four months ago, Yousuf joined Bangladesh Rural Economic Development (BRED) as an intern. He completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka and is undoubtedly talented. When he first joined,…

In Kolkata, six different organizations were invited to come together for a Cohort meeting. Arrangements for everyone’s stay were made in a natural, beautiful, and captivating place, which filled everyone with joy. I was very eager to meet everyone and learn about the strengths they brought. Human emotions are important, but people often don’t wait for others to express their feelings, as no one understands their inner emotions. In this meeting, everyone openly and trustingly shared their…

Last month, my team and I held a dream-building session at our office, where we envisioned what the Grow Your Reader Foundation could become by 2040.I’ve been part of sessions like this before, but this one surpassed all my expectations. The depth of the discussions made me see, in a way I hadn’t before, just how meaningful our work truly is. I was moved by how each person in the team spoke about Grow Your Reader Foundation with such heart, showing me that…

From a young age, I always felt driven to make a meaningful impact on marginalized communities. This passion is what led me to pursue a career in the development sector, as I’ve always strived to improve the well-being of those in need. However, the July mass uprising and subsequent floods in the Greater Noakhali region had a profound effect on me. They pushed me to think more deeply about how to mobilize the younger generation to support marginalized communities.
With this in mind, I…

In the heart of Gopalganj, the air felt heavy as I stepped into the room of the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI). The faces of 42 trainee teachers greeted me, some worn, some irritated—a reflection of the news they’d just received about their school placements, which weren’t what they’d hoped for. As I looked around, I could feel the tension…

In the Pechakola community, members of the Rojonigondha group are discussing ways to implement their ideas with the help of SALT. They want to explore self-sufficiency, particularly focusing on how to fund their own education when families struggle to do so.

We are familiar with the people of the place where we live since we were children. The smell of the earth sticks to us. We grow up in that environment. There is nothing unknown to us. not so But these words are not correct at all. What we see is what we want to see. What we hear and say, we want to hear and say. We get used to living within a society's rules. However, many things happen outside of our care and understanding in society. That we cannot think about. So what…

In 2020, I made a big decision to work full-time for the Grow Your Reader Foundation, a journey that has been full of challenges, learning, and growth. Our journey began with a small but incredibly dedicated group of volunteers who have always been close to my heart. Their support has been invaluable, and without them, we wouldn't have made it this…

I met some children from Nandwal village today. They were in the ninth grade. I was supposed to conduct a SALT activity with them. Initially, I introduced myself to them. The children were not significantly younger than me. To ensure there were no difficulties in our discussion, I told them not to address me as "Sir" but to call me "Dada" instead. They agreed to this with a smile.
I asked both of them to recall good things in their…
