Stories about Response (2,404)

Pinoy Competence’s thousand flowers are blooming!

“ Gaya ng walis tingting….kung nag-iisa lang…walang tibay at hindi makakapaglinis….pero kung pinagsama-sama…mas matibay… mas may gamit!”      (Just like a broom stick….alone…there is no use , it’s weak….but put several together and bind it…it becomes stronger at it becomes useful!), that’s how a peasant leader’s wife described themselves and what they are doing in their search for justice and food security.

The SALT visit that I joined together with the other…

Food Justice in Asia - using CLCP to let churches plan for action

As a Constellation coach, I have facilitated quite a number of Knowledge Fairs.  I have recorded dozens of stories on video to develop Knowledge Assets and spread the valuable experience of communities around the world. But today was special. Today I actually couldn’t keep my eyes dry during the video recording. The story was too touching. It went straight to my heart. Normally I urge people to stick within 3 minutes, but even though this story went on for 7 minutes, I remained silent. I…

Quel drame! Elle y…

Tell Me A Story - Day 4 at the Global Learning Festival, Mahabalipuram, India

Day four at the Global Learning Festival bore testimony to the transformative and catalytic power of stories. Sanghamitra, who facilitated the opening session, asked us all to reflect on the day before and share one extraordinary insight that we might have found. Prabakar expressed his generous appreciation for the stall that Eric Ngabala and team (from Kinshasa) ran the previous day. He commented on how well-thought out the presentation was, and how Eric was able to switch seamlessly…

A peek from Canada into the festival last week

Evidence of Community Strength from across the World

As I reflect on the last week at the Global Learning Festival at Chennai, images, thoughts and feelings crowd in.

The overwhelming feeling left with me is that it was extraordinary how people felt so full of hope, joy and solidarity. People from across continents, speaking totally different languages could bond together, and feel such a sense of harmony and connectedness. I too felt so connected with myself and with others

What was the magic? What happened in those 5 days that…

Who is at the centre of development? The Swaziland experience

On paper, our pursuit of economic growth, self-reliance, and social justice in Swaziland is very much in line with the Busan principles. In practice, there is another story.

In 1988, the Swazi government embarked on a comprehensive planning system designed to meet emerging and serious challenges such as poverty and economic instability. Now complete, the Swaziland National Development Strategy (NDS) articulates the country’s…

Curiosity killed the cat

There is something interesting related with our capacity to express curiosity. In my culture, curiosity has been considered a tendency that needed to be controlled, specially among women. Still today it is considered as an intrusion into other people's lives, and a behaviour to be avoided for a good social interaction.

I haven't thought very much about it until I went to visit this small community affected by the tsunami in the region of Tamil Nadu, India. And curiosity is what…

Susanne Mueller: A visit to an inspiring village

, n

As part of the Global Learning Festival in Chennai, India we were invited to a field trip to visit a community that has been exposed to the SALT process.  I was intrigued by the openness of a small village far far away from civilization.  When working with the business sector I rarely get exposed to a community so up close and personal.  The…

Cultural Evening at the Global Learning Festival 2012

I ended my previous, and first, blog entry with a mention of the cultural event that was about to begin when I made my post. All I can tell you now is that it was one heck of an evening! It started around 7.30 pm and went on till midnight, with just half an hour’s break in the middle for dinner. I mean it very sincerely when I say that the talents we were witness to yesterday were so amazing that they could give the people on TV talent shows a run for their money!

Mahesh Iyer and team…

Day 3 of the Global Learning Festival at Mahabalipuram, India

Hi, everyone! I am Aniruddh, and I am new around here. I am in Mahabalipuram at the Global Learning Festival, learning, sharing, documenting and translating. Since so many of you could not make it here and are eager to know what is going on, I thought I’d share with you some of my notes from Day 3 of the event.

We started the day with the appreciation of good music. Alli Sudar, a visually challenged artist, played a short melody on his flute, thus setting the right mood for…

ANIMATION! - a useful tool for your fundraising

In early 2012, a group from the Global Support Team came together to see how we could help equip Constellation members to carry out fundraising to fund their travel and attendance at the Global Learning Festival. One of our strategies was to encourage groups to come together and hold creative fundraising events - anything ranging from dinners to fun runs to flash mobs!

We were lucky enough to come across Michael, an artist based in UK who had a dream to build his first…

Lessons from the Arctic Circle! A leading example of local responses!

I was contacted by Eva-Lena, who comes from a community of 800 people living in a rural village in the Arctic Circle, in Sweden.

It's hard to write an intro to such an incredible video except to say - be warned... YOU WILL BE INSPIRED AND ENERGISED! What a community!

The community are not yet members of NING, but have said that they'll join us very soon. I promised to share this blog for the Global Learning Festival so that we can start some dialogue with…
