My experiences with the SALT Visit

I am sharing a small video where I talk about my experiences with the SALT visits in North Karnataka. This has been a very rich experience for me, as I learnt simultaneously from both the participants and the communities. The experiences shared by the participants from different countries have broadened my understanding, and the communities experiences have reiterated their strengths and capacities. Hats off to the SALT visit!!! I hope they come back fast.

From the North-East Knowledge Fair: CLCP was there before the CLCP facilitators

As I wake up in Dimapur, Nagaland, after the best two days of rejuvenating CLCP that we had in the nearby Maova group of villages, it is time for a quick reflection on what we soaked in before other waves of incidents wash away impressions of the last two days from the shores of our minds.…

Continue

Are You Sure?

I just returned from four days of SALT visits in Karnataka, India. I am still grappling with what happened. No words will ever translate the power of the inspiration flowing through all of us, hosts and guests alike. Maybe the only way to thank for the gift of these days is to act on what we learned in our respective…

The Fight for HIV/AIDS continues

Dear friends,

I am happy to anounce to you that i back online and most happy to know you are all there in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

As the international community thinks of comemoriating World Aids Day , come Dec. 1st, my school health club and i are not left behind. INCLUSION

After having salt visits to the truck drivers and getting their views and their dream towards a free HIV/AIDS generation it emerged that we are only targeting the truck drivers alone and leaving behind their spouses who are not spared either by the pandemic. Some drivers said that they themselves have done everything to abstain or use Condom if it is a must ,but back at home their spouses have friends who they move around with and they don't use preventive measures to protect themselves .So the… Continue

What I resist, fate insists…

It has always happened to me. What I have not wanted, I have had to do, and then I have become so absorbed in it that I wonder how I never wanted to do it:-). I was the biggest critic of SALT approach and today I am passionately involved in it. When I met my best friend I thought she disliked me and now…!

Similarly, in the recently concluded international Knowledge Fair in Karnataka, India, participants had to join one of the four subgroups for SALT visits. I made up my mind, I…

S - Stimulation!

“What is this that I have in my hand?” One of the 26 cosmetologists took it and said “it is a quartz stone and is firm.” The Facilitator remark was “does it makes you feel like talking as well?” “yes” was the reply. “okay, then you will be the first to share your personal dream with all of us.” Smiling the participant said “OMG!” but took up the challenge, followed by the 25 other cosmetologists. This was day 2 of the three days SALT with cosmetologists. Day one had identification of strengths… Continue

Why CLCP is far better than Targeted Interventions (TI)

At the recently concluded CLCP Workshop, for all CARE staff working in EMPHASIS (our project name) held at CARE India office in New Delhi, from 18-21 October 2010, one of the participants asked me an explaination. His dilemma was that if we carried out the Community Life Competence Process there seemed to be an apparent disparity between EMPHASIS (our project) goals and objectives with those of the community. Consequently, I explained that:

In the Targeted Intervention Model…
