They took a bold decision without hurting anyone.

They took a bold decision without hurting anyone.

A salt activity was conducted with a self-help group in Nandwal. After that, the women also took an action. Before taking salt, they all used to never leave their homes, but after taking salt, they realized their strength and went to a resort for a day trip. The women in this group are always ready to do some new activity. Four days ago, the husband of a woman in that group passed away. According to the old tradition, after the husband…

Open Conversations: A Path to Healthy Masculinity

I met Sachin Shinde, a 34-year-old farmer from Nandwal village. He had just returned from the fields, tired, and was sitting at his doorstep with a mobile phone in his hand. I approached him and asked for some time, and when I started the conversation, he happily agreed. His wife is currently working as a member of the Nandwal Gram Panchayat.

I shared with him some information about the Joyful Village research, where the community members themselves had taken initiative and worked. He…

When Men Open Up: Reflections from a Village Katta

This evening, around six o’clock, I set out for Nandwal village. My purpose today was to meet the men of the village. I know that on Mondays, many men and young people are on holiday, so I try to meet them at that time.

I saw a few men sitting on the katta, chatting. I joined their discussion and quietly listened for some time. They were talking about several issues related to the development of the village. For nearly half an hour, I just listened to what they were saying. Then, I asked…

Unspoken Struggles: A SALT Conversation on Masculinity and Change

On the evening of September 4th, I went to Nandwal village for my regular SALT activity. As I walked through Patil Galli, I noticed a man standing outside his house. I introduced myself and asked if he could spare some time for a conversation. He gladly agreed, and our discussion began.I asked him if he could recall any joyful events in his life. Without a moment’s delay, he shared: I used to be a farmer. But now, I supply milk in the city. I own six cows, and that’s how we run our…

A Journey of Discovering Inner Strength.

‎We often look around and admire the qualities of others. But have you ever thought that within us too lies countless possibilities, positive energy, and a wealth of life experiences? Many times, we fail to recognize or acknowledge that inner beauty. Yet, when identified properly, these strengths can not only enrich our own lives but also move the…

When Children Lead With Curiosity :A Simple Iron Test that Amazed Me.

Embracing the SALT Approach: A Step Towards Community-Led Change

Belonging to a simple family, I was fortunate to grow up in a wise, and supportive environment that nurtured values of kindness and service. These values encouraged me to join Peace For People with the purpose of serving those in need. Over the years, our team has been dedicated to bring positive change in rural Nepal, particularly in the areas of education and sports. While working in these communities, I was often confronted with the harsh realities faced by students—circumstances far…

Reflections On Group SALT:Why Appreciating Each Other Matters.

"When trust isn't given easily"

As a social work student, I always believed I had skills to connect with people. When I came across the opportunity to serve as a community facilitator under the ARC project, I was more than excited. I saw it as a golden opportunity to work at grassroot level and engage with people one-to-one. Being an extrovert, I thought stepping into the community, having conversations and building trust would be as natural as butter spread on the bread. But reality had different plan for me.

The…

“Way forward for the Caretakers of children with Neurodevelopment Disorder”

The First Signs

When a child is born with a neurodevelopment disorder, everything may seem normal at first. For the first two years, parents often don’t notice anything unusual. Slowly, they begin to see the delays in child’s development.

Worried and confused, parents search for the answers for delay development. They visit doctors, hospitals, shamans, and even temples for cure. After many attempts, they…

Learning Beyond the Classroom

I was born and raised in a small rural village in Syangja, in a middle-class family. My father was a known man in our community for his bold presence and confident communication style. His personality was magnetic, so much so that I always wanted to be like him. He was a leader, a businessman, and someone who inspired respect simply by being…

Not Everyone Is Sweet, and That’s Okay

A month ago, I stepped into something completely new with the ARC Project. We had to conduct a community survey in two places, and honestly, I was nervous but also excited. I thought it would be easy because I believed people in the community would be sweet, welcoming, and happy to talk with us since we were doing it for them.

But reality was different. Not everyone welcomed us the way I imagined. Some people were warm at first but later got irritated. Some looked arrogant in the…

Reflections on My Journey with the ARC Project: Challenges, Growth, and Learning

Working with the ARC project was far from easy—it pushed me out of my comfort zone and tested my abilities in ways I hadn’t experienced before. As a community facilitator, one of the biggest challenges was introducing and explaining the SALT approach to communities. It was a new approach not just for them, but also for me. At first, I had very little idea about how the project worked or how to apply SALT effectively, which made it hard to convince community members and gain their…
