Connecting local responses around the world
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
I reached the centre for my “Card making workshop with kids” and the centre was closed. The keeper forgot to open the centre and he was unreachable. I stood outside with the five young girls and informed them that we shall wait thirty minutes and if the keeper…Continue

“We mobilise our own resources first” is an important principle in the community life competence process. This principle helps to ensure that a community uses its full strengths in working towards a dream, a shared vision. Members of the community mobilise all human and financial resources in their reach to achieve their own success.
I am therefore delighted about latest developments in Sankuru, RD-Congo.

I facilitated a few months ago a great Dream building exercise for a 70 people organization in Singapore. The small group dreams came out extremely well.
I was cautious of hierarchies, but actually had the team leaders facilitate the various groups and share their dreams in the end. That worked well. I briefed them separately before the event took place and shared relevant questions to ask during the exercise.

In October 2012 I was part of the local facilitators trained by Mr. Sangaré of the Constellation from Bamako. It was my first time hearing about this approach. At first we thought we might become experts, but in reality and in practical terms, it was very simple: SALT was rather a simple way of seeing others and a rewarding way of doing with others. At the end of the training we were required to experiment with a group of people. I decided to do it in my first grassroots community:…Continue

Before the session started Mr Autry Haynes approached me and asked what were these 5 children doing. They were the children, nephews and grandchildren under 10 years of age of the women coming for SALT and they would be spending the next one and a half hour drawing all by themselves. My Haynes suggested that along with my friend, Jessinee, we improvise a session with the children.
We started the session asking the…Continue
In our opening session we were asked to consider the phrase "local response" and what it meant to us.
The following is a short story from my experience.
A few years back I worked as a community development officer in a coastal town in the UK. It is a…Continue
