Joao Arnaldo Vembane's Blog (12)

You will never get from reality if not your own representation (DEMO, 2008)

Why this blog today?

This morning, at office, a colleague of mine came to me to discuss on how we value communities land in face of mining project development that are compulsorily removing them from their original place to other resettlement places, while compensating them as for established in the Mozambique law. The Resettlement Regulation (Decree 32/2012) states more or less that when communities are resettled due to development of economic projects, including mining, they must be…

The Cure for AIDS is Close to be Found but, Never for SALT

One may either call it HIV, AIDS both or whatsoever as the degree of knowledge differs, for us the distinction does not matter. The undeniable fact is that it is there within us and continuously spreading. AIDS remains one of the world’s most serious health challenges(UNAIDS, 2012: 8), for as UNIADS (2012) in the “Report on the Global AIDS epidemic | 2012” indicates that 1,700,000 people died of AIDS only in 2011, about 2,500,000 were newly infected and 34,000,000 are…

the Great of the Greatest from Karnataka International SALT Visit

The Karnataka Interantional SALT Visit of October 2011 awakened us on the need to gather with partners. The simple way it was organised, with support of the Constellation Community, made it possible to materialise our dream of doing similar in Mozambique. I would call that process a lesson took home. Indeed, through what we've seen in Karnataka we came motivated and dedicated to organise a similar process. We consulted technical support from Constellation members, some of whom joined us in… Continue

Becoming a Disabled Woman is a big Issue in Our Families

Graça[1], a 32 years old woman, from the township of Chimoio in Manica Province of Mozambique, a mother of two kids Paulo and Anita[2] of 10 and 5 years old respectively, was divorced with a breastfeeding child (Anita) when she was one year old, for almost four years. Graça divorce resulted in sequence of events that started in a car accident, when she was hit by a car selling roasted peanuts to increase the income of her family, before Anita came. As… Continue

My Bloughts (Blog+thoughs)

Hey guys,

You can access some of my thoughts through:

You will find different articles of different issues (always related to politics, philosophy and economy) - some in Portuguese and others in (my funny) English. Some of these articles are published with Jornal Zambeze (page10).

This is the way I found to improve my own… Continue

SALT visits and Knowledge Fair in Mozambique (Africa)

Well, you all know about my passion with the Community Life Competence Process since I first went into contact with... there are no words to describe it. Always learning and learning form everywhere. I mean, the process teaches us to explore to a maximum possible extent opportunities that surround us with many hints for our own benefit and therefore our social networks (in all different dimensions). For those of you who were with me in the last visit organized in India -…

Entre os Direitos e o Marketing - 1 de Maio (Dia do Trabalhador) / Between Rights and Marketing - 1st of May (Labor International Day)

When there is Even a Small Effort Dedicated to People with Disabilities their Abilities to Cope with HIV and AIDS Become Evident

It’s been almost two (02) years, since January of 2008, that Handicap International is implementing the project of “Empowerment of People with Disabilities and Strategic Partnership to Reduce Their Vulnerability to HIV and AIDS”. The project is basically focused on improving their capacities to advocate…

Community + SALT + Me = All equal human valuable and lovable

When I decided to join the Constellation Team, SALT principles were the key for my passionate attraction. I even thought that it was the only thing that was making this team functioning. One might question why that was so evident comparatively to the other set of marvelous activities that the ACP team develops. And that is right, I also question the same. I never understand why, I only know that it is so impressing to the stage that once you start you get so involved and don’t even think of… Continue

This is what we've learnt to do...

When people feel free to organize and express themselves... the way they want... results that come are always surprising.

I was amazed to hear an Association of the Visual Impaired People of Mozambique say "we succeeded with our community. We are so demanded to help our people their..". Attention to the words demanded to help! They have such a meaning that is very difficult here to describe. Just for quick getting together, because I believe I might have lost you, they are blind and… Continue

It's difficult to understand when it is just said and written, we all need to see it "in loco"

More than what I expected happened in a few days visit to some communities in Maputo (south of Mozambique - capital), Manica and Sofala (Central Region). A team of the ACP coachers and some of the Mozambique facilitation team plus me (of course not yet trained) paid a visit to some of Disabled people organizations implementing the ACP and some that are not.

On my first thought would have been a kind of refreshing training by the constellation coachers to the national team in an… Continue
