Dear Friends

Warm new year greetings!

Two new e-groups have recently been set up in our online community:

Youth competence group
http://aidscompetence.ning.com/group/youthcompetence?xg_source=acti...
First discussion focuses on sustainability of youth-led organisations.

Against GBV group
http://aidscompetence.ning.com/group/againstgenderbasedviolence
Guyana UNAIDS supported team has focused on violence against men as well in the self assessment framework. Very critical point I think.

You may join and share your experiences with people from all over the world. Its very easy to join. Go to the link given above, sign in as the member of aids competence and click on +join at top right corner.

Thanks and regards,
Rituu

Message on Community Action Day

Imagine what would happen if every single community in the world was to take stock of its response to AIDS on World AIDS day, and take action to progress towards Life Competence? It is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the Community Action Day (CAD) on or around World AIDS Day, December 1. By acting together on that day in response to AIDS and to other life concerns, we will remind ourselves and others that we (communities, families, individuals) are the key actors in response to the threats to our well being.

During the Community Action Day you and your community are invited to build your dream for your community, assess where you are on the path towards that dream, celebrate progress and sketch the way forward. You can choose to respond to the issue most of concern for you, which can be HIV, malaria or any other issue.

You can share the stories, challenges and progress of this day on the Community Life Competence online platform by joining the group 'Community Action day group' at http://aidscompetence.ning.com/group/communityactionday?xg_source=m...

You and your community can share photographs of your great moments in the CAD photo album, and your Self Assessment and Action Plan in the forum discussion. After the day, you and others will be able to refer to this site for inspiration, information and ideas on how communities around the world are also competently dealing with key issues such as HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Domestic Violence, Adolescent Reproductive Health and more.

We are providing a Resource Pack as a guide for you and your community to plan and coordinate your event. It offers step-by-step instructions and a handy toolkit, as well as some unique ideas for how to celebrate.

The Constellation is bound by one dream: Life Competence spread faster than the virus; and by one belief: communities can respond effectively to their own concerns. Together we can turn these beautiful statements into reality.

You can contact Rituu B Nanda at rituu@communitylifecompetence.org for more details.

Friends.....allow me to share the report from LVCT Kenya as they built a dream and went through the self-assessment exercise. I am sure you will agree, that the process was clearly transferred and applied within the LVCT context. Thank you Maina and Lilian for the excellent facilitation. Dear Prabakar, thanks for sharing. Interesting outcomes. Did you manage to choose 3 priorities that SIAAP would like to work on? This will facilitate the regional exchange visit with BIRDS later this week.
