“The government’s community health services wasn’t having a lot of luck reaching out to youth on adolescent sexual and reproductive health. They started to recognize the value of local response when they saw that youth had much more influence on other youth than professionals do. Now, local youth are involved in their outreach programmes as peer educators and peer counselors. Youth are great at mobilizing their friends. They have also formed a Youth Advisory Panel that gives feedback and advice to UNFPA and local NGOs on how to create youth-friendly programmes.”
