Eleven Practices of Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Competence at Manonjaya Tasikmalaya

1. Knowledge and Acknowlegment of ARH

2. Inclusion

3. Access to information and services of Family Planning

4. Access to information and services of STI and HIV-AIDS

5. Identification of pregnancy signs and emergency obstetric

6. Gender

7. Ways of working

8. Measuring changes and adapting response

9. Mobilization resources

10. Learning and transfer

11. Art and sport activities.

The prioritised partices were: Access to information and services of Family Planning, Identification of pregnancy signs and emergency obstetric, gender, learning and transfer, Knowledge and Acknowlegment of ARH. I just wondering that 9 and graders are soo interested of learning alot about gender. The Four ARH competence groups ( sub district community, three schools) there have already conducting self assessment and starting to scale up SALT to wider community.

All inputs and sharing are wellcome.

Dear Gaston n Laurence;

Kindly advice me about this, since what actually been happened there was youths conduct regular exercise and performing arts while discussion of ARH issues were promoted. They also conducted such a little festival of art and sport among themselves by support of other community member. Yes I d agree with Gaston's vision on how that it can be taken to improve on a higher -level practice.

The question is whether 'art and sports activities' in a separate practice or the concrete actions that can be taken to improve on a higher-level practice. Then art and sport activities would be just 1 way of improving on this practice. Do you understand? What would this practice be called in relation to ARH?

Dear Laurence;

Thanks for the input. Is it necessary before i re-phrasing the practice to include any leisure activities for youth I have to discuss it the the community? since they add this practice completing those recommended by UNFPA/SALT team.

Best

Thanks a lot for your clear explanation about Art and sport activities. I understand why it is part of the framework now. Based on the answers of the youth, do you think about re-phrasing the practice to include any leisure activities for youth?

Dear Laurence...

I copy paste some story to be shared with Rituu on this 11 ARC Practices. Kindly guide me with your stimulating question so I can meet better understanding also about these practices.

Discussion with them make me and them realize that to be able to reach their dream they need to be health, not getting pregnant, do not use drugs, not being infected by HIV-AIDS etc. Along with this ARH practices are introduced. One of the practices is sport and art activities. Laurence asked me a question in what extend that this practices support ARH Competence. I shared this with students and fathers groups and Chandra also.

Students said that these sport and arts activity will make them spent their spare time by doing these activity. By joining sport and arts clubs or activity they can make friendship with other, discuss more, doing something productive and healthy. Dadi (17 years, a male student) said that he found his friend was got unwanted pregnancy. He learned that his friend has no other activity, she just go with her boyfriend and spending her spare/leisure time with her boy friend. At the end his friend getting pregnant. That what Dadi want to avoid. having sport and art activities as another ways of spending his time and making more friends, and sharing with them more interesting topic. Chandra said that perhaps general principle of this practice is not the sport and art activity then, but how youth spend their spare/leisure time by doing these activity that in turn will make them having something positive, productive, enlarging their friendship with others etc.

Community itself who initiate to put this practices as one of ARH 11 practices as uploaded at my blogs as another way for youths to spend their spare time.

More input and share from you are welcome dear Laurence.

Best Regards

Thanks for sharing Wiwin. Can you share the process that got the team to these 11 practices? Also Phil made a very interesting document (no 'guidelines' or manual, but just reflections based on his experience) on developing a self-assessment framework. Have a look here: http://sites.google.com/a/communitylifecompetence.org/learning/home...

Hi Wiwin,

These practices are very interesting to me. Can you explain more about Art and sport activities? Can you explain how art and sports is a practice to reach ARH competence?

Thanks

Laurence
