Connecting local responses around the world
Kavita works as ASHA in Jotana SC, her home is 5 km away from the sub centre. Village Jotana is fallen under HealthRise X1 category in Block Jhadol. At home, they are a family of 5 members consisting of Kavita, her husband, her mother in law, father in law and son. Kavita was involved in I phase of HealthRise SALT activity. During that time she attended 2-3 SALT meetings. Later the project was closed. Now in transition grant, the outreach workers started coming to their village for SALT activities. She participated in SALT meetings during this phase also. In her words ‘I feel happy that in SALT meetings all express their feelings. I got a chance to speak and heard about what good others are doing. I have learnt through SALT the importance of listening and appreciating’.
Changes that occurred
Kavita says, she has started to exercise now. She takes her father in law to hospital for checkup. She conducts SALT meeting with patients. The adolescents after attending SALT meetings has started to keep their house’s surrounding area clean. She also added that her work load is less now because the pregnant and lactating mothers themselves come to Anganwadi center for checkup and she does not need to follow up with them to get immunized. All these changes she says is because of SALT meetings. Before SALT she felt over burdened. Adolescent, PW and LW are not come to checkup themselves.
