To what extend do you support local response?
I personally support Local Response greatly, because it allows one to see how ways of thinking are transformed. As a facilitator, it allows me to see in actuality how this process evolves, and how important it is for one to realize and support local response.
My own experience of local response in communities is that I saw them identify their own threats and strengths; then they were guided unknowingly, but willingly into creating and developing an action plan together, on their best way of moving forward, and then acting on changes that would benefit them. It also allows them to bring their dreams and hopes out and guide them into creation their own solutions on bringing it to realization.
So rather than assuming what should be their vision, with the SALT approach their way of thinking is transformed into one vision and their local response comes into action and then, we as facilitators believe with them and guide them…

Hi Tricia,
What is the name of the community were you experienced this? What actions did they take after the meeting?
Thanks,
Laurence
Dear Tricia,
Nice sharing. Thanks! The challenge which usually comes up is how to align community dreams with project goals. For eg HIV might not be the priority for the community but the project is on HIV. What is your experience?
Its good to be in touch with you, Tricia.
Warmly,
Rituu
