How Healthy Masculinity is Teaching Me to Observe Differently | হেলথি ম্যাস্কিউলিনিটি আমাকে যেভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণ করতে শেখাচ্ছে

১৩/৫/২৫ তারিখে আমরা জয়নগর মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ের ৭ম শ্রেনির শিক্ষার্থীদের আমন্ত্রণে স্কুলে যাই। কেননা তাদের স্বপ্নের একটা অংশ ছিল নিজেদের শ্রেণীকক্ষে লাইব্রেরী প্রতিস্থাপন করা। কিছুদিন আগেও তাদের সাথে আমরা একটা গ্রুপ সল্ট করি। সেখানে তারা কিভাবে নিজেদের লাইব্রেরী তৈরি করতে পারে সেই মতামত দেন। আমরাও তাদের সাথে একাগ্রতা প্রকাশ করি। সেখানে তাদের বাহারি রংয়ের সাজসজ্জা ছিল বিশেষ করে লাল ফিতা। কাগজের পোস্টারে লেখা শুভ উদ্বোধন। বাহারির রঙের ও মলাটের বই যেটা আমার মনকে আকৃষ্ট করে। ছেলেরা এবং মেয়েরা দুইটা আলাদা শাখায় দুইটা লাইব্রেরী স্থাপন করেছে। তাদের সাক্ষাৎকার নেয়ার পরে আমরা জানতে পারি এই লাইব্রেরী তাদের রিডিং শেখা ইংরেজি শেখা এছাড়াও সাধারণ জ্ঞানে ভিত্তি মজবুত করবেন। যার ফলে তারা পাঠ্য বইয়ের বাইরে থেকে অনেক কিছু শিখবেন। তবে সেখানে গিয়ে আমি ছেলে এবং মেয়েদের মধ্যে কিছুটা পার্থক্য লক্ষ্য করি। এখানে মেয়েদের অংশগ্রহণটা বেশি ছিল, যা চোখে পড়ার মত। তারা উৎফুল্ল মনে সবাই এই কাজে এগিয়ে আসে। তাদের লাইব্রেরি প্রতিষ্ঠার কাজটা ছিল গোছালো

এছাড়াও বাহারি অনেকগুলো বইয়ের সমাহার। সবার মনের মধ্যে ছিল বিপুল আগ্রহ। স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত অংশগ্রহণ। তাদের রুমটাও ছিল পরিষ্কার পরিচ্ছন্ন। এবং তারা এটা নিজেরাই করেছে। পক্ষান্তরে ছেলেদের লাইব্রেরী স্থাপনে সবার অংশগ্রহণ তেমন ছিল না। এবং কাজের প্রতি অযত্নশীল মনে হয়েছে। এছাড়াও সবার মধ্যে একতাও কম ছিলো। রুমটাও তেমন পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্ন ছিলনা। কয়েকজনের আগ্রহ থাকলেও লাইব্রেরী প্রতিষ্ঠা করার সময় অনেকেরই এই বিষয়ে তেমন আগ্রহ দেখায়নি। সেখানে তাদের অংশগ্রহণও কম ছিল। কেননা অনেকে লাইব্রেরী উদ্বোধন করার সময় শ্রেণীকক্ষের পেছনের আর পাশের দরজা দিয়ে বের হয়ে গিয়েছিল। আমি বুঝতে চেষ্টা করলাম এর মূল কারন। ছেলেমেয়েদের আচরনের ভিন্নতা। তখন আমার মনে হয়েছে, এই কাজগুলোকে হয়তো বেশিরভাগ ছেলেরা মনে করছে মেয়েদের কাজ। বা তারা বাড়িতে বা স্কুলে শেখেনি কিভাবে যত্ন সহকারে নিজের জিনিস সাজাতে হয় বা পরিষ্কার রাখতে হয়। তখন আমি বুঝতে পারলাম তাদের সাথে আমি ম্যাস্কিউলিনিটি গ্রুপ থেকে আমার শিক্ষাকে এখানে কাজে লাগাতে পারি। এখানে আমার শিক্ষাটা প্রয়োগ করার একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্ষেত্র রয়েছে। যে শিক্ষাটা তাদেরও মন মানসিকতা চেঞ্জ করবে। কাজের প্রতি তারা যত্নশীল হবে এবং বেশি আগ্রহী হবে। নিজেদের কাজকে তারা নিজেরা সম্মান করবে। পর্যবেক্ষণকালে আমি এটা নিয়ে মনে মনে অনেক ভেবেছি। এবং ভবিষ্যতে আমি আমার শিক্ষাকে এ সকল ছেলে শিক্ষার্থীদের সাথে প্রয়োগ করতে পারি। On May 13, 2025, we visited Joynagar Secondary School at the invitation of the seventh-grade students. One of their dreams was to establish a classroom library. Not long ago, we had conducted a group SALT session with them, where they shared their ideas on how they could set up their own library. We showed solidarity with their initiative and expressed our support. The decorations were vibrant—especially the red ribbons and posters that read "Inauguration"—all of which caught my attention. The colorful books with their varied covers were also visually captivating. Both the boys' and girls' sections had set up separate libraries. After speaking with the students, we learned that these libraries would help them improve their reading skills, learn English, and strengthen their general knowledge, enabling them to learn beyond their textbooks. However, I observed some differences between the boys and girls. The girls' participation was significantly higher and clearly noticeable. They enthusiastically took part in the initiative, and their library was well-organized with a diverse collection of books. Their classroom was neat and clean, and they had arranged everything themselves. Their excitement and spontaneous involvement were truly admirable. On the other hand, the boys’ section saw limited participation. There seemed to be a lack of care and attention toward the task. Unity among them was also weaker. Their room was not very tidy, and although a few boys showed interest, many were not very engaged in the process of setting up the library. During the inauguration, several students even left the classroom through the back and side doors, indicating disinterest. I began to reflect on the underlying causes—particularly the behavioral differences between boys and girls. It occurred to me that many boys might perceive such tasks as “girls' work,” or perhaps they have not been taught—either at home or in school—how to take care of their own belongings or keep spaces clean and organized. That’s when I realized that my learnings from the Healthy Masculinity session could be applied here. This situation presents an important opportunity for me to use that knowledge—to help shift their mindset, to encourage them to take more responsibility and pride in their work. I believe this can help them become more caring and involved. As I observed this, I gave it a lot of thought and concluded that, in the future, I can apply what I’ve learned with these male students to help bring about positive change.
