How did you know about Constellation community?
From Birgitta Schonmaker
About Me:
I am dedicated to enhancing organizational strengthening and capacity building of civil society organizations in various countries in the world.
I am passionate about what I do: advising organizations and programs that work for social transformation, incorporating a global view and dialogue between strategy (the what) and management (the how). Since 2012, I am developing my facilitation skills from the perspective of "Process Work and Deep Democracy". I love to share and build collectively, complementing capabilities.
To ensure that ideas are translated into reality I believe in empowerment of individuals, but especially in empowerment of groups, organizations and communities. Therefore, in my advisory work, I focus on facilitating Participation, with a clear preference for methodologies that enhance processes, both in capacity building and quality management. I have always been very keen on building bridges between disciplines (I studied anthropology and economics) and on bridging different visions and cultures
My dream:
Our differences can be the fuel for our greatest creativity and they make for stronger relationships, communities, workplaces and cultures.

Challenges in applying SALT: INCLUSION, rank and egalitarian dialogue.

Learning from applying SALT in Catalonia. (it follows the previous post on Who are we?)

(AER) some interesting challenges to reflect upon:

  • One important aspect was to clarify the role of the Government administration. Clearly reflecting clearly on power dynamics is important in the beginning of a participatory process, specially as an ethical issue with participants:
  • Clarification on what are the overall intentions of key actors like government in this case, or…

Who are we? Uncovering strengths through story telling and exploration of Hopes and Concerns in Catalonia.

Dear all,

I would like to share my experience in applying SALT to a project with Civil Society Organisations in Tarragona, Catalonia.

A gathering was organized on 20th January, which was facilitated using SALT to get to know better "Who are we". Some organisations / reference persons know each other, and also have a history of working together, but not all, so diversity was there, which was hugely needed to be taken into account in the facilitation…

Attack to the Kurdish community and People’s Protection Units (YPG), a self-organised movement that could be an example of SALT approach towards community dream and local response.

I would like to share with all of you, The Constellation, my concern and sadness on the impunity on Turkey’s offensive against a Kurdish enclave in northern Syria. Up to 24 civilians have been killed and an estimated 5,000 displaced in the first three days.…

'war starts when there is nobody to talk to' : this was meant to point out that people can get more and more angry if there is no one to look into the eyes and express their views, concerns, hopes....  When there is no way to addres your point of view. I believe the SALT approach can be useful to build bridges. In addition to SALT I think it is important to find ways to deal with (strong) emotions when people disagree. This is something maybe we can learn from Deep Democracy.

Hi Noemi,

Great to see you here!  Lots of what you believe in is part of the dream and the approach of the Constellation, as I understand it: the importance of building connections on the shared humanity aspect, looking for the common ground of 'what makes us human?'.

Also, inclusion being so important. I remember clearly from the seminar with the Mindell's that he said at one point last week in Greece: 'war starts when there is nobody to talk to'

In other words, it can be a matter of life and death to bring people together and facilitate connections from human to human. Sharing personal stories instead of preaching ideological views.

The aspect of story telling is well developed within the Constellation. And it is a tool for building connections between people.

I love your dream Noemi. Would you have any example where you have facilitated very diverse groups towards collective action? Thanks. Warm greetings from Delhi!
