When my friend got HIV: Life does not stop here

Posted on February 19, 2009 at 8:11am 3 Comments

Two years ago, my friend named David came to me and he said that he wanted to go to HIV test. On that time I asked him why he wanted to do that? He is gay and has a boyfriend – but often having sex with other boys out there without condom. Firstly, I told him to think positively and I gave him a booklet about HIV and AIDS. Mr Harry Kurniawan this is the great change in your friend and you did a good job for his better life. This is the right approach to bring the positive change in HIV positives. When they get the good knowledge and support from the NGO or peer group automatically the positive spirit will increase in the People Living with HIV/AIDS. I am being glad about for your tool role models (Positive Speakers). That is very great approach for the PLHAs and automatically they will interact with them and get the more information with the friendly manner.

One thing we have to follow strongly when we are arranging the interaction or meeting with the positive speakers or support group members we have to take the permission from that person (New PLHA). We have share about the positive speaker or support group status, activities, project support and areas also. Then we have to encourage him to participate in that interaction or meeting.

Support Groups are very nice tool for increase the community action and reduce the stigma and discrimination. It is creating the enabling environment with in the group and communities.
Mr. Harry Kurniawan I am heart fully appreciating for your right tool to change the mindset of the People Living with HIV/AIDS.
