When my friend got HIV: Life does not stop here

Two years ago, my friend named David came to me and he said that he wanted to go to HIV test. On that time I asked him why he wanted to do that? He is gay and has a boyfriend – but often having sex with other boys out there without condom. Firstly, I told him to think positively and I gave him a booklet about HIV and AIDS. I asked him to read it carefully and after that we would discuss it. A week after, I was invited some friends who are HIV positive to gave testimony to David. Finally, David took the decision to got the test. The result was positive. He felt down and afraid. Two weeks after that day, I was invited David to come to support group meeting to look at what the positive people looks like. His spirit raised. And he decided to become HIV counselor, until now. David has been involving his friends around 26 persons to become counselors and volunteers at the clinic in my office.

Harry, thank you for sharing this with us.
Your story fully ilustrates how a positive result to HIV does not necessarily have to go through a long period of innecesary pain because one feels his or her life are finished. The support you gave to your friend allowed him to go beyond the diagnose and he is now spreading the word. Community support allows people who tests positive to make the best of their lives.
Best wishes
