MDG Gap Task Force Report 2011:
The Global Partnership for Development: Time to Deliver

“[T]he international community has yet to meet the targets we have assigned ourselves [in support of achieving the MDG’s]. There is a troubling distance between what we have promised and what we are actually doing to support the global partnership for development. And that gap is expected to widen,” said the UN Secretary-General at the launch of the MDG Gap Task Force Report 2011, The Global Partnership for Developm.... Significant gaps remain in delivering on the commitments in the areas of aid, trade, debt relief, and access to new technologies and to affordable essential medicines. Crucial commitments on aid volume, aid effectiveness, and the conclusion of the Doha Round of trade negotiations, to have been reached by 2010, were not met.

The Report also analyzes the impact of the global crisis on meeting the targets. Many countries now need to devote an additional 1.5 per cent of their annual gross domestic product to achieve the MDG’s. Stepping up international support is, therefore, essential. The global economic situation “cannot be an excuse not to deliver. We cannot afford to leave the poor even further behind,” exhorted the Secretary-General. With only four years left until the 2015 deadline to deliver on the commitments contained in the MDGs, the 2011 Report provides recommendations to all major stakeholders on how to address the remaining implementation gaps. It is time to deliver!
