আমাদের গ্রো ইউর রিডার এর দ্বিতীয় জ্ঞানের মেলার পরে রাশিদা আন্টি আমাকে তাদের বাড়িতে ডেকে নেয়। এবং তাদের বাড়ির আরও কয়েকজনের গুন বা শক্তি সম্পর্কে জানায়।এমনকি তারা একটা নতুন টিম গঠন করতে চায়। তারা বলে হয়তো সামনের কোনো জ্ঞানের মেলায় তারা তাদের পরিবর্তনের গল্প অন্যদের শোনাতে পারবে। তাদের গল্প শুনে অন্যরা অনুপ্রাণিত হবে যেমন করে তারা অনুপ্রাণিত হয়েছে। এরপর সল্ট করতে করতে তাদের ইউনিক শক্তি সম্পর্কে জানতে পারি। তারা সেলাই, কুশিকাটার কাজে বেশ দক্ষ তবে সেটা নিয়মিত না। তাই সল্টের পরে গ্রুপ সল্টে বসে বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে তারা আলোচনা করে। এবং নিজেরা এই সমস্যার সমাধান খুঁজে বের করে কিভাবে তাদের এই সেলাই টাকে আয় মূলক কাজের দিকে নিয়ে যাওয়া যায়।

এক বছর হলো আমাদের পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া আগামীর স্কুলে শিক্ষার্থীরা ভর্তি হওয়া শুরু করেছে। যেহেতু শিক্ষার্থীরা ভর্তি হওয়া শুরু করেছে, সেহেতু তাদের নতুন স্কুল ড্রেস, স্কুল ব্যাগ ইত্যাদি বিষয় নিয়ে চিন্তাভাবনা বা আলোচনা চলছিল। কি করা যায়? আমরা চিন্তা করছিলাম কেন বাইরে থেকে আমরা ড্রেস আর ব্যাগ বানাবো? আমাদের আপারাই তো প্র্যাক্টিস করা শুরু করেছে। ওনাদের একটু জিজ্ঞেস করে দেখি। আমরা কথা বললাম এই বিষয়ে তাদের সাথে। তখন আন্টিদের মধ্যে পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া স্কুলের শিক্ষার্থীদের নিয়ে বেশ কৌতূহল তৈরি হয়। তারা স্কুল সম্পর্কে জানতে চায়। সব শুনে তারা সানন্দেই রাজি হয় এই শিশুদের জন্য ড্রেস এবং ব্যাগ বানাতে।
আমাদের ব্যাসপুর কমিউনিটির দুটি পাড়ার আপা, আন্টিদের হাতের নিপুন ছোঁয়া এবং ভালোবাসায় তৈরি হয়েছে স্কুল ড্রেস ও পাটের তৈরি চালের বস্তা রিসাইকেল করে ব্যাগ। পাহাড়িয়া পাড়া আগামীর স্কুল যেহেতু পরিবেশ বান্ধব সেটা বিবেচনা করেই পরিবেশবান্ধব রাখতে ব্যাগ পাটের বস্তা দিয়ে তৈরি করা হয়। এটা টেকসই এবং সহজলভ্য ও বটে।
ব্যাগ এর সাথে ভালোবাসায় সিক্ত করে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছেন কুশি কাটার হাতের তৈরি ফুল । ব্যাসপুর উত্তর পাড়া থেকে সাবিনা আপা ও রিপা আন্টি তৈরি করেছেন ছোট, বড়, মাঝারি এবং ওভারসাইজের মেয়ে শিক্ষার্থীদের ড্রেস (ফ্রক)।তারা দুজন মিলে মোট 27 টি ড্রেস সেলাই করেছেন। পরম যত্নে এবং উৎসাহিত হয়ে।
অন্যদিকে কাটাখালি পাড়া থেকে রাশিদা আন্টি ৩৩টি ছোট, বড় মাঝারি এবং ওভার সাইজের শার্ট তৈরি করেছেন। এখানে ছোট্ট একটা গল্প শেয়ার করি, সল্টের মাধ্যমে কমিউনিটির অনেকেই সেলাই কাজে পারদর্শী তা শেয়ার করেন। তবে তাদের দক্ষতা নিজেদের পোশাক তৈরির মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ ছিল খুব কম লোক শেয়ার করেছিল যারা অন্যদের কাজ করে থাকে। তবে শার্ট সেলাই করতে পারে এমন মহিলা কে কমিউনিটিতে খুজে পাওয়া যায়নি। যেহেতু আমাদের পাহাড়িয়া পাড়ার স্কুলে ছেলে শিক্ষার্থী ও রয়েছে তাই আমি অনেকের সাথে কথা বলেছি শার্ট নিয়ে। পরে রাশিদা আন্টির সাথে এই বিষয়টা নিয়ে একটু আলোচনা করি। তবে রাশিদা আন্টি আত্মবিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে বলেন আমি কখনো শার্ট তৈরি করিনি তবে আমি বিশ্বাস করি একবার দেখলে আমি এটি পারব। তারপর একদিন আমি আমার ফোন থেকে শার্ট কাটিং আন্টিকে দেখাই। ঐদিন দেখে কিছুটা আইডিয়া নেওয়ার পরে, পরের দিন আমি যাওয়ার আগেই দেখি সে তার ছেলের একটি শার্ট খুলে আবার নতুন করে সেটাকে জোড়া লাগিয়েছে। এবং আমি যাওয়ার পরে গর্বের সাথে বলেছে আগামী দিন আমি আপনাকে একটা শার্টের স্যাম্পল বানিয়ে দেখাবো এরকম ভাবে বানালে কেমন হয়! কথা মত আন্টি ঠিকই একটা শার্ট বাংলা ভাবে তৈরি করে ফেলেছিল।যেটা আমি সুন্দর করে ছবি তুলে প্রিয়া আপু এবং সাদিয়া আপুকে দেখাই।আপুদেরও শার্ট তৈরি খুব পছন্দ হয় এবং রাশিদা আন্টিকে ফোনে অনেক প্রশংসা করে। পরে আন্টি নিজের প্রচেষ্টায় টরে কাপড় কেটে শার্ট বানাতে সক্ষম হয়।

এমনকি 33টি শার্টই আন্টি নিজে তৈরি করে। প্রতিবেশীদের সাথে রাশিদা আন্টির অনেক সুসম্পর্ক।যখন আন্টি শার্ট তৈরি করে তখন ওনার টিমের অন্যরা বসে বসে আন্টিকে বোতাম এবং ঘাট সেলাই করতে সহযোগিতা করে। রাশিদা আন্টির শার্ট এর সংখ্যা বেশি থাকায় তার সময় লাগে বেশি। অন্যদিকে সাবিনা আপা এবং রিপা আন্টির ড্রেস সেলাইয়ের কাজ শেষ হয়ে যায়।
শাহানারা আপার টিমের সাবিনা আপা, রিপা আন্টি এবং শাহানারা আপা নিজে চাউলের বস্তা থেকে ব্যাগ তৈরি করা শুরু করে। তারা তিনজনে মিলে ৩১+৩০+৯=৭০টা ব্যাগ তৈরি করে ফেলে। এর জন্য প্রথমে ব্যবহৃত চাউলের বস্তা গুলোকে কেটে নেয়। পরে লেখা ছাড়া অংশটুকুতে ফল্স কাপড় লাগিয়ে পরে সেটা ব্যাগের আকৃতি দেয়। এবং পরে ধরার জন্য হাতল লাগায়। এবার ব্যাগে সুন্দর করে কাটাখালি পাড়া থেকে রুকাইয়া, "পাহাড়িয়া পাড়া আগামীর স্কুল "লিখে দেয়। চারপাশে বক্সের মতো তৈরি করে মাঝখানে লেখাটা লেখে। কয়েকটা দিন ২ পাড়ার এই দুই টিমের মধ্যে যেন উৎসব বিরাজ করছিল। কিভাবে ঢেলে সাজানো যায় এবং এর সৌন্দর্য ফুটিয়ে তোলা যায় এমনই যেন একটা মনোরম পরিবেশ।কাজ দেখার জন্য জড়ো হয়ে বসা আরও অনেক ছোট বড় মানুষের সমাগম। বেশ আমোদ ছিল এই কটা দিন।
উত্তরপাড়ায় বস্তা থেকে ব্যাগ তৈরির পর দেওয়া হয় কাটাখালি পাড়ার রাশিদা আন্টির টিমের কাছে। সেখান থেকে লেখা শেষে কিছু ব্যাগ রেখে দেয় কাটাখালির রাশিদা আন্টির টিম এবং কিছু ব্যাগ শাহানারা আপার টিমের কাছে পাঠানো হয় সেলাইয়ের জন্য যেখানে সুই সুতা দিয়ে ফুটিয়ে তোলা হয় রঙিনভাবে । চারপাশের আয়তাকার ফ্রেম এবং মাঝের লেখাটাতে হাতের সেলাই দেওয়া হয়। লাল সুতার চেইন সেলাই খুব ফুটে ওঠে পাটের বস্তার ওপর।
কাটাখালির রাশিদা আন্টির টিমের এক সদস্য, জাহানারা আন্টি উলের লাল সবুজ সুতা দিয়ে ফুল এবং পাতা তৈরি করে হাতে। কুশি কাটার ফুল। ৪৭ টি ব্যাগে জাহানারা আন্টি নিজে কুশিকাটার ফুল বসান। তাতে ব্যাগের সৌন্দর্য আরো বেড়ে যায়। এভাবে কমিউনিটির মানুষের শক্তিকে একটু একটু করে ফুটিয়ে পরম যত্নে পৌঁছে দেওয়া হয় পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া স্কুলের শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে। এই কাজটা কমিউনিটির মানুষ বেশ যত্নে করে শেষ করে।
তারা মনে করে তাদের এই শক্তি সম্পর্কে কখনোই কাউকে জানানোর সুযোগ হয়নি, এই তো সুযোগ তাদের শক্তিকে সবার সামনে তুলে ধরার। তাই তারা তাদের নিজেদের শক্তিকে অনেক ভালোবেসে তুলে ধরার চেষ্টা করেছেন। কমিউনিটির অনেকেই তাদের কাজ করতে দেখে নিজেকে ধরে রাখতে পারেনি, স্বেচ্ছায় বিভিন্ন কাজ নিজেরা এগিয়ে করে দিয়েছেন। যেমন কেয়া আপু সেলাইয়ে পারদর্শী না তবে সে সেলাই করা দেখে নিজেকে ধরে রাখতে না পেরে তার একটা শক্তিকে কাজে লাগানোর চেষ্টা করেছে। রাশিদা আন্টির শার্ট বানানো দেখে কেয়া আপু বলে- "কাকি আপনি শার্ট সেলাই করবেন আর আমি আমার বাসার আয়রন মেশিন দিয়ে সেগুলোকে আয়রন করে দিব"। এবং কেয়া আপু সেটাই করেছেন শার্টগুলো এবং ফ্রকগুলোও নিজে হাতে আয়রন করে পাহাড়িয়াপাড়ার আগামীর স্কুলের শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য নিজেকে বিলিয়ে দিয়েছেন।
পাহাড়িয়াপাড়ার মানুষেরা অনেক সানন্দে আমাদের ব্যাসপুরের আপাদের বানানো ব্যাগ এবং ড্রেস গ্রহন করেছেন। তারা আপাদের পরিশ্রমকে সম্মান দিয়ে কিছু টাকা দিয়ে ব্যাগ আর স্কুল ড্রেস টা কিনে নিচ্ছেন।
আর এমনিভাবে পরস্পর পরস্পরের সহমর্মিতা এবং সহযোগিতা পূর্ণ মনোভাবের মধ্য দিয়ে পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া আগামীর স্কুলের শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য ভালোবাসার এক গল্প তৈরি করেছেন ব্যাসপুর কমিউনিটি। ব্যাসপুরের আপারা এখন চেষ্টা করছেন কিভাবে তারা তাদের কাজকে আরও সামনে নিয়ে যাবে।

• After our second Knowledge Fair of Grow Your Reader, Rashida Aunty invited me to her home. She introduced me to the strengths and talents of several other members of their household. They even expressed their desire to form a new team. They said that perhaps in a future Knowledge Fair, they would be able to share their stories of change with others. Hearing their stories would inspire others, just as they themselves had been inspired.
  Through SALT conversations, I came to know about their unique strengths. They are quite skilled in sewing and crochet work, although they do not practice regularly. So, after SALT, they sat together in a group SALT session, discussed these issues, and tried to find solutions on how to turn their sewing skills into income-generating work.
  It has been a year since students started enrolling in our Pahariapara Agamir School. As enrollment began, discussions arose about school uniforms, bags, and other needs. We thought—why should we get these made from outside when our own community members have already started practicing? So, we decided to ask them.
  When we spoke with them, the aunties became very curious about the school and wanted to know more. After hearing everything, they happily agreed to make dresses and bags for the children.
  The women from two neighborhoods of our Bayespur community created school dresses and bags with their skilled hands and love. The bags were made by recycling jute rice sacks, keeping in mind that Pahariapara Agamir School is environmentally friendly. These bags are durable and easily available.
  They also decorated the bags with handmade crochet flowers made with love.
  From Uttar Para, Sabina Apa and Ripa Aunty made dresses (frocks) for girl students in small, medium, large, and oversized sizes. Together, they stitched a total of 27 dresses with great care and enthusiasm.
  On the other hand, Rashida Aunty from Katakhali Para made 33 shirts in different sizes. Here’s a small story: during SALT, many people shared that they were skilled in sewing, but most of them only made clothes for themselves. Very few worked for others, and no woman in the community was found who could sew shirts.
  Since there are also boys in the school, I spoke with many people about making shirts. Later, I discussed it with Rashida Aunty. She confidently said, “I have never made a shirt before, but I believe if I see it once, I can do it.”
  One day, I showed her a shirt-cutting tutorial on my phone. After getting some idea, the next day—before I even arrived—I saw that she had taken apart her son’s shirt and reassembled it. When I arrived, she proudly said she would show me a sample shirt the next day. As promised, she successfully made one. I took a picture and showed it to Priya Apa and Sadia Apa. They loved it and praised Rashida Aunty over the phone.
  Later, she independently started cutting fabric and making shirts. She completed all 33 shirts herself. She has a good relationship with her neighbors, and while she was working, other team members helped her by sewing buttons and finishing touches.
  Meanwhile, after finishing the dresses, Sabina Apa, Ripa Aunty, and Shahanara Apa started making bags from rice sacks. Together, they made a total of 70 bags (31 + 30 + 9). First, they cut the used sacks, then added lining fabric, shaped them into bags, and attached handles.
  Later, Rukaiya from Katakhali Para wrote “Pahariapara Agamir School” beautifully on the bags, with a box design around the text.
  For several days, there was a festive atmosphere between the two neighborhoods. Many people gathered to watch the work, and there was a sense of joy and excitement in creating something beautiful together.
  After initial preparation in Uttarpara , the bags were sent to Rashida Aunty’s team in Katakhali Para for writing. Some bags stayed there, while others were sent to Shahanara Apa’s team for decorative stitching. The designs were highlighted with hand stitching, especially with red thread chain stitches on the jute.
  Jahanara Aunty, a member of Rashida Aunty’s team, made crochet flowers and leaves using red and green wool and attached them to 47 bags, enhancing their beauty even more.
  In this way, the strengths of the community were carefully expressed and delivered with love to the students of Pahariapara Agamir School. The community members completed the work with great care and dedication.
  They felt that they had never had the opportunity to showcase their strengths before—this was their chance. So, they presented their abilities with love and pride.
  Many others in the community were inspired and volunteered to help. For example, Keya Apa is not skilled in sewing, but seeing the work, she wanted to contribute. She said to Rashida Aunty, “You sew the shirts, and I will iron them with my iron machine.” And she did exactly that—she ironed all the shirts and dresses with care.
  The people of Pahariapara happily received the bags and dresses made by the women of Bayespur. They respected their effort and even paid money to purchase the bags and school dresses.
  In this way, through empathy, cooperation, and mutual support, the Byespur community created a beautiful story of love for the students of Pahariapara Agamir School. Now, the women of Byespur are trying to find ways to take their work even further.
