Joba Group: The Silent Caregivers of Our Community

In the quiet corners of our community, change does not always come with loud proclamations or flashy events. Sometimes, it comes silently, carried on the shoulders of a few ordinary people doing extraordinary things—just like the members of Joba Group.

Joba Group is not just a team of volunteers; they are the soul of our neighborhood. Their mission goes far beyond community development—they bring care, dignity, and humanity into the lives of people who are often forgotten.

 

Caring for the Helpless

In the early days, one of Joba Group’s first and most heartfelt initiatives was supporting the elderly—those abandoned or neglected by their own families. There were many elderly people in the community living in isolation, suffering silently in dependency and neglect.

Joba Group came forward. They didn’t offer material help only; they gave their time, companionship, and emotional support. They would sit and talk with the elderly, accompany them to the mosque, or escort them to the hospital when needed. These may sound like simple gestures, but for a neglected soul, they were priceless.

This compassionate support has continued to this day. Currently, the group is supporting a woman named Josna Apa, the wife of a respected retired schoolteacher known as Khoka Master. Josna Apa is now seriously ill. She cannot walk, perform daily chores, cook, or bathe on her own. Her family’s everyday life has become increasingly difficult because of her condition.

That’s when Joba Group stepped in. Each day, members take turns visiting her home—cooking for her, helping her bathe, feeding her, and taking her to the hospital. They do this selflessly, with no expectation of reward or recognition. Their actions remind us that humanity is still alive. When even family members struggle to be present, Joba Group redefines what it means to be a family.

Seeking Long-Term Solutions: Bringing Responsibility Back to Families

When we asked the group how long they plan to continue this support and whether they have any long-term solutions, they shared something remarkable. They have been trying to contact Josna Apa’s children, who live outside Pabna. Their intention is to speak with them when they visit the village—to explain that caring for one’s parents is not just a duty, but a responsibility that cannot be ignored. It’s not just about financial help; it’s about presence, love, and emotional care.

 

Planning for a Broader Impact

Joba Group is now planning to form a community-based volunteer team that will include boys, girls, and adolescents—youth from the village who are ready to step up for the elderly, the abandoned, and the lonely in society. This team won’t just work in Pechakola but will reach out to nearby villages as well.

They envision a network of youth-led compassion—talking to people, offering encouragement, and inspiring others to replicate this model in their own communities. In a world where humanitarian work is often restricted to NGOs and projects, Joba Group is showing that real, grassroots-driven service is still possible.

 

A Team of Silent Heroes

What’s truly touching about Joba Group is that their work is entirely selfless. They don’t seek praise, money, or gifts. They simply want to serve—quietly, consistently, and lovingly.

In today’s fast-paced world, where most people are caught up in personal gain and professional goals, the members of Joba Group stand as an example. They prove that to be a hero, you don’t need to be in the news. Standing beside a sick woman, helping her eat, or holding the hand of an elderly person on their way to the mosque—these are acts of heroism, too.

Joba Group is not a registered organization. They don’t operate with any official banner. But what they are building in Pechakola is a movement of care—one that doesn’t shout, doesn’t demand attention, but gently touches the hearts of many.

They remind us that family is not always about blood relations. Sometimes, it’s about showing up. It’s about standing beside someone when no one else will.

পরিবর্তন সব সময় বড় কোনো প্রচারণা কিংবা শোরগোলের মাধ্যমে আসে না। কখনও কখনও তা আসে নিঃশব্দে—একটি ছোট্ট ভালোবাসার ছোঁয়ায়, একদল সাধারণ মানুষের অসাধারণ কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে। ঠিক যেমনটি করছেন জবা গ্রুপের সদস্যরা।

জবা গ্রুপ শুধুমাত্র একটি দল নয়—তারা আমাদের সমাজের আত্মা। তাদের কাজ শুধু উন্নয়নমূলক কর্মকাণ্ড নয়, বরং তারা মানুষের জীবনে ফিরিয়ে আনছে মর্যাদা, স্নেহ এবং মানবিকতা।

 

অসহায় মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়ানো

অতীতে, জবা গ্রুপ প্রথম যেসব কাজ শুরু করেছিল তার একটি ছিল—বৃদ্ধদের পাশে দাঁড়ানো, যাদের পরিবার আর খোঁজ রাখত না। সমাজের এমন অনেক বয়স্ক মানুষ ছিলেন, যারা নিঃসঙ্গ, অবহেলিত ও নির্ভরশীল অবস্থায় জীবন কাটাচ্ছিলেন।

তাদের পাশে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছিল জবা গ্রুপ। তারা শুধু সময় দিয়েছেন, কথোপকথন করেছেন, মসজিদে নিয়ে গেছেন, প্রয়োজনে হাসপাতালে সঙ্গ দিয়েছেন। এগুলো শুনতে সাধারণ মনে হলেও, একটি অবহেলিত প্রাণের কাছে তা ছিল অমূল্য। এই সহযোগিতা ছিল নিঃস্বার্থ এবং ধারাবাহিক। সেটা আজও চলছে।

তারা জানালেন, বর্তমানে তারা জোছনা আপা নামের এক অসুস্থ নারীর পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। তিনি হলেন খোকা মাস্টার নামে একজন সম্মানিত স্কুল শিক্ষকের স্ত্রী। জোছনা আপা বর্তমানে খুব অসুস্থ। তিনি হাঁটতে পারেন না, নিজের কাজ নিজে করতে পারেন না, রান্না বা গোসল করাও তার পক্ষে সম্ভব নয়। এমন অবস্থায় তার পরিবারের প্রতিদিনের জীবনও হয়ে উঠেছে কঠিন।

এই সময় জবা গ্রুপের সদস্যরা তার পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। প্রতিদিন তারা পালাক্রমে জোছনা আপার বাড়িতে যান, তার জন্য রান্না করেন, গোসল করান, খাবার খাওয়ান এবং হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যান।

তারা কোনো স্বার্থ বা প্রতিদান ছাড়াই এই কাজগুলো করে যাচ্ছেন। তারা প্রমাণ করে দিচ্ছেন—মানবিকতা আজও বেঁচে আছে। যখন নিজের পরিবার থেকেও কেউ পাশে দাঁড়ায় না, তখন জবা গ্রুপ নতুন করে পরিবারের সংজ্ঞা দিচ্ছে।

 

দীর্ঘমেয়াদি সমাধানের খোঁজে: পরিবারের কাছে দায়িত্ব ফিরিয়ে দেওয়া

আমরা জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলাম—"আপনারা কতদিন ধরে এই সেবা চালিয়ে যাবেন? কোনো স্থায়ী সমাধান বা ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনা কি আছে আপনাদের?" জবা গ্রুপ তখন আমাদের জানায়, তারা চেষ্টা করেছেন জোছনা আপার ছেলেমেয়েদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করতে, যারা বর্তমানে পাবনার বাইরে থাকেন। তারা বলেছেন, যখন সন্তানেরা গ্রামে আসবেন, তখন জবা গ্রুপের সদস্যরা তাদের সঙ্গে বসে কথা বলবেন এবং বোঝাবেন—নিজের বাবা-মার দায়িত্ব সন্তানদেরই নিতে হবে। শুধু সাহায্য নয়, ভালোবাসা ও যত্নও দিতে হবে।

 

বৃহত্তর প্রভাবের পরিকল্পনা

তবে এখানেই থেমে থাকেনি তাদের উদ্যোগ। আমরা যখন জানতে চাইলাম, ভবিষ্যতে তারা আর কী কী ভাবছেন—তারা জানালেন, তারা একটি স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দল গঠনের পরিকল্পনা করছেন। এই দলে থাকবে ছেলে, মেয়ে এবং কিশোর-কিশোরীরা, যারা সমাজের অবহেলিত, একাকী এবং বয়স্ক মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়াবে। তারা শুধু নিজেদের গ্রামেই নয়, আশেপাশের অন্য গ্রামগুলোতেও যাবেন, মানুষের সঙ্গে কথা বলবেন, অনুপ্রাণিত করবেন—যাতে প্রত্যেক গ্রামে এমন একটি মানবিক উদ্যোগ গড়ে ওঠে।

জবা গ্রুপের এই ভাবনা আমাদের মনে গভীর দাগ কেটে দেয়। তারা দেখিয়ে দিয়েছেন, পরিবর্তনের জন্য বড় কিছু লাগেনা—লাগে শুধু মন, মানবিকতা আর একটুখানি ইচ্ছাশক্তি।

 

একদল অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ক মানুষ

জবা গ্রুপের যেসব কাজ সত্যিই হৃদয় ছুঁয়ে যায়, তার পেছনে আছে একটিই কথা—কোনো স্বার্থ নেই, শুধু মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়ানো। তারা চায় না প্রশংসা, চায় না অর্থ বা উপহার। তারা শুধু কাজ করে চলেছেন—নিরবে, ভালোবাসা থেকে।

আজকের পৃথিবীতে যেখানে অনেকেই ব্যস্ত নিজের কাজ নিয়ে, সেখানে জবা গ্রুপের সদস্যরা দিনশেষে প্রমাণ করছেন—নায়ক হতে হলে পত্রিকায় আসতে হয় না। একজন অসুস্থ নারীর পাশে দাঁড়ালেই আপনি একজন নায়ক। একজন বৃদ্ধের হাত ধরে মসজিদে নিয়ে গেলেই আপনি সমাজের পরিবর্তনকারী।
