A New Year Together: Small Actions, Big Realizations

Yesterday, the first day of 2026, began at the office in a truly unique way. From the morning, faces were filled with warm greetings, smiles, and a quiet sense of hope for the new year. There were no formal ceremonies or outward glitz, there was only our own initiative and a sincere desire to spend time together. At the start of the day, we all took on the responsibility of cooking. Some were chopping vegetables, some were at the stove, and others were organizing the meal. Amidst the work, the stories, laughter, and lighthearted banter made the entire atmosphere vibrant. Later, as we sat down to share the meal, it felt as though we weren't just colleagues we were human beings deeply connected to one another.

In the past year, we would not have thought of starting the day sitting together and sharing work like this. Office meant specific tasks, specific roles and different boundaries of responsibilities. But through SALT, we gradually learned to see each other in new ways, to participate equally and to share responsibilities. Along that learning path, the first day of 2026 at the office started in a completely different way.

The most important aspect of the gathering was everyone's equal participation, the shared joy, and the mutual support. No one was a giver and no one was a receiver. Everyone was an equal partner, equally involved.

This small but meaningful experience reminded we once again of what SALT teaches us: solutions do not fall from the outside, and joy does not need to be borrowed. Strength, capability, and potential reside within us. When we believe together and take initiative together, even a very ordinary day can become extraordinary.

This experience also highlights the essence of Community. Change happens when people identify their own problems, make their own decisions, and take their own initiatives. External support may come, but the real driving force comes from within the people themselves. Small acts of participation build collective trust, deepen relationships, and move the community forward.

From this, a perspective on Masculinity also emerges. Masculinity isn’t just about being "tough" or carrying the entire burden alone. Masculinity means sharing responsibilities, respecting the work of others, and having the capacity to be sensitive when needed. Working together in the kitchen, serving food, and making space for everyone these small acts are practices of equality and respect, which we realized through our initiative today.

On the first day of 2026, we learned that great realizations are found in small tasks. When we support, stand by, and respect one another, the seeds of internal change are sown. This mindset creates a path for transformation that ripples outward from the family to the entire community.

বছরের শুরু একসাথে: ছোট কাজ, বড় উপলব্ধি

গতকাল ২০২৬ সালের প্রথম দিনটা অফিসে শুরু হয়েছিল একদম অন্যরকমভাবে। সকাল থেকেই সবার মুখে ছিল উষ্ণ শুভেচ্ছা, হাসি আর নতুন বছরের জন্য এক ধরনের নীরব আশাবাদ। অফিসে কোনো আনুষ্ঠানিক আয়োজন বা বাহ্যিক চাকচিক্য ছিল না। ছিল শুধু আমাদের নিজেদের উদ্যোগ আর সবাই মিলে একসাথে সময় কাটানোর আন্তরিক ইচ্ছা। দিনের শুরুতেই আমরা সবাই মিলে রান্নার দায়িত্ব নিলাম। কেউ সবজি কাটার, কেউ চুলায় দাঁড়িয়ে, কেউ আবার খাবারের আয়োজন গুছিয়ে নেওয়ার। কাজের ফাঁকে ফাঁকে গল্প, হাসি আর ছোট ছোট খুনসুটি পুরো পরিবেশটাকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তুলেছিল। পরবর্তীতে একসাথে বসে খাবার ভাগ করে নেওয়ার সময় মনে হচ্ছিল, আমরা শুধু সহকর্মী নই, আমরা একে অপরের সাথে যুক্ত মানুষ।

বিগত বছরে আমরা এমনভাবে একসাথে বসে, কাজ ভাগ করে নিয়ে দিন শুরু করার কথা ভাবতাম না। অফিস মানেই ছিল নির্দিষ্ট কাজ, নির্দিষ্ট ভূমিকা আর দায়িত্বের আলাদা আলাদা গণ্ডি। কিন্তু SALT-এর মধ্য দিয়ে ধীরে ধীরে আমরা শিখেছি একে অপরকে নতুন চোখে দেখতে, সমানভাবে অংশ নিতে আর দায়িত্বকে ভাগ করে নিতে। সেই শেখার পথ ধরেই ২০২৬ সালের প্রথম দিনটা অফিসে শুরু হয়েছিল একদম অন্যরকমভাবে।  আয়োজনটিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ছিল সবার সমান অংশগ্রহণ, আনন্দ আর একে অপরকে সমর্থন করা। এখানে কেউ দাতা ছিল না, কেউ গ্রহীতা ছিল না। সবাই ছিল সমান অংশীদার, সমানভাবে যুক্ত।

এই ছোট কিন্তু অর্থবহ অভিজ্ঞতাটা আবারও মনে করিয়ে দিল SALT আমাদের কী শেখায়। সমাধান বাইরে থেকে এসে পড়ে না, আনন্দও বাইরে থেকে ধার করে আনতে হয় না। শক্তি, সক্ষমতা আর সম্ভাবনা আমাদের মধ্যেই আছে। যখন আমরা একসাথে বিশ্বাস করি, একসাথে উদ্যোগ নিই, তখন খুব সাধারণ একটি দিনও বিশেষ হয়ে উঠতে পারে।

এই দিনের অভিজ্ঞতা আমাদের কমিউনিটির কথাও স্পষ্ট করে তোলে। কমিউনিটিতে যখন মানুষ নিজেরাই সমস্যা চিহ্নিত করে, সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় আর উদ্যোগ নেয়, তখন পরিবর্তনটা আসে। বাইরে থেকে সহায়তা আসতে পারে, কিন্তু আসল চালিকাশক্তি আসে মানুষের নিজের ভেতর থেকে। ছোট ছোট অংশগ্রহণ একসাথে মিলে বিশ্বাস তৈরি করে, সম্পর্ক গভীর করে, আর কমিউনিটিকে এগিয়ে নেয়।

এখান থেকেই Masculinity নিয়ে ভাবনার জায়গাটাও সামনে আসে। পুরুষত্ব মানে শুধু শক্ত থাকা বা দায়িত্ব একা কাঁধে নেওয়া নয়। পুরুষত্ব মানে দায়িত্ব ভাগ করে নেওয়া, অন্যের কাজকে সম্মান করা, আর প্রয়োজনে সংবেদনশীল হতে পারা। রান্নাঘরে একসাথে কাজ করা, খাবার পরিবেশন করা কিংবা সবাইকে সমানভাবে জায়গা দেওয়া এসব ছোট কাজের মধ্যেই সমতা আর সম্মানের চর্চা হয়, যা আজকে আমাদের এই উদ্যেগে উপলব্ধি করতে পারি।

২০২৬ এর প্রথম দিনটিতে আমরা শিখলাম যে, ছোট কাজের মধ্যে বড় উপলব্ধি পাওয়া যায় যখন একে উপরকে সমর্থন করে, পাশে থাকে এবং সম্মান করে তখনই ভেতর থেকে পরিবর্তনের সূচনা তৈরি হয় যা ধীরে ধীরে পরিবার থেকে কমিউনিটি পর্যন্ত, এই ভাবনাই পরিবর্তনের পথ তৈরি করে।
