পরিবর্তনের পথে এক কিশোর: সাকিবের গল্প -“A Teenager on the Way of Transformation: Sakib’s Story”

Today, I want to share the story of an 18-year-old young man from the Munshiganj community named Sakib—whose transformation came through discussions on Masculinity and SALT.

At first, I had a personal SALT session with Sakib. During that conversation, he shared his thoughts and experiences. Later, a Masculinity Group SALT session was held in the community. In the group discussion, Sakib realized an important point—there is no discrimination between the work of boys and girls. Anyone can do any kind of work.

This realization brought a small yet profound change in Sakib’s life. A few days later, when I went for a community follow-up, I witnessed a different scene. Sakib was helping his mother with cooking—fetching water in a pitcher from the river. He had never done such tasks before.

Sakib told me—
“I am slowly trying to take part in different household chores, because these tasks are actually my own responsibility too.”

This small change shows that awareness and positive discussions can bring transformation in the mindset and behavior of young people.

My Reflection
Sakib’s story reminded me that change begins with small steps. A single conversation, a moment of awareness, can create new perspectives in the lives of young people. If we can build relationships of trust, respect, and empathy with them, they will begin to walk the path of change from within themselves.

আজ আমি শেয়ার করতে চাই মুন্সিগঞ্জ কমিউনিটির ১৮ বছর বয়সী এক যুবক সাকিবের পরিবর্তনের গল্প—যা এসেছে Masculinity ও SALT এর আলোচনার মাধ্যমে।

প্রথমে আমি সাকিবের সাথে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে একটি SALT সেশন করি। সেই আলোচনার মধ্য দিয়ে সে নিজের ভাবনা ও অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করে। এরপর কমিউনিটিতে Masculinity Group SALT অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। গ্রুপ ডিসকাশন চলাকালে সাকিব একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় উপলব্ধি করে—ছেলে-মেয়েদের কাজে কোনো বৈষম্য নেই। যে কেউ, যেকোনো কাজ করতে পারে।

এই উপলব্ধি সাকিবের জীবনে ছোট হলেও গভীর পরিবর্তন আনে। কয়েকদিন পর যখন কমিউনিটিতে ফলোআপ করতে যাই, আমি এক অন্যরকম দৃশ্য দেখি। সাকিব তার মায়ের জন্য রান্নার কাজে সাহায্য করছে—নদী থেকে কলসি ভরে পানি এনে দিচ্ছে। এর আগে সে কখনো এমন কাজ করেনি।

সাকিব আমাকে বলল—
“আমি আস্তে আস্তে চেষ্টা করছি ঘরের বিভিন্ন কাজ করার। কারণ এই কাজগুলো আসলে আমার নিজেরও দায়িত্ব।”

এই ছোট পরিবর্তনই দেখায় যে সচেতনতা ও ইতিবাচক আলোচনার মাধ্যমে তরুণদের মনোভাব ও আচরণে পরিবর্তন আনা সম্ভব।

সাকিবের গল্প আমাকে মনে করিয়ে দিয়েছে, পরিবর্তন শুরু হয় ছোট ছোট পদক্ষেপ থেকে। একটি আলোচনা, একটি সচেতনতা তরুণদের জীবনে নতুন দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি তৈরি করতে পারে। যদি আমরা তাদের সাথে বিশ্বাস, সম্মান ও সহমর্মিতার সম্পর্ক তৈরি করতে পারি, তবে তারা নিজেদের ভেতর থেকে পরিবর্তনের পথে হাঁটবে।

Tasks we often call women’s traditional work are actually basic human responsibilities.
