Masculinity Group SALT Session in Taltola Community: A Different Experience - তালতলা কমিউনিটিতে ম্যাস্কুলিনিটি গ্রুপ SALT সেশন: এক ভিন্ন অভিজ্ঞতা

Today, a special Masculinity Group SALT session was held in the Taltola community of Munshiganj. Four young participants joined the session— Jabbar, Abhi, Chanchal, and Shoyon. I had the opportunity to facilitate this session, and truly, it was an incredible experience for me.

Previously, I have facilitated similar sessions with men of different ages. But what made this one special was that all the participants were of a similar age group. For safeguarding purposes, an 18-year-old boy was also included in the session.

At the beginning, they didn’t seem very interested. They were somewhat quiet and hesitant. But gradually, the pace of the discussion and the atmosphere started to change. Eventually, everyone became attentive and began to participate actively in the conversation.

The most delightful part was when they started to express their emotions. Many shared memories of childhood games— such as playing Ekka Dokka (a traditional game). Some even admitted that they wished to cry in public and express their emotions freely. In that moment, it became clear how deeply they carried hidden feelings inside, and how the discussion gradually gave them the courage to express them.

Towards the end of the session, participants expressed their desire to go deeper into such conversations. They even showed interest in continuing Masculinity Group SALT sessions regularly together.

Reflection
For me, this was an inspiring experience. Because this session was not just a discussion, but also an opportunity to understand the emotions, feelings, and inner world of young people in a new way.

আজকে মুন্সিগঞ্জের তালতলা কমিউনিটিতে অনুষ্ঠিত হলো একটি বিশেষ ম্যাস্কুলিনিটি গ্রুপ SALT সেশন। সেশনে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলেন চারজন তরুণ— জব্বার, অভি, চঞ্চল এবং সয়ন। আমি এই সেশনটি ফ্যাসিলিটেট করার সুযোগ পেয়েছিলাম, আর সত্যিই এটি আমার জন্য ছিলো এক অসাধারণ অভিজ্ঞতা।

এর আগে আমি ভিন্ন ভিন্ন বয়সের পুরুষদের নিয়ে এ ধরনের সেশন করেছি। তবে এবারের বিশেষত্ব ছিলো— অংশগ্রহণকারীদের সবার বয়স কাছাকাছি। সেইফ গার্ডিং-এর উদ্দেশ্যে একজন ১৮ বছর বয়সী ছেলেকেও সেশনে রাখা হয়েছিলো।

শুরুর দিকে তাদের মধ্যে তেমন আগ্রহ লক্ষ্য করা যায়নি। তারা কিছুটা চুপচাপ, দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত অবস্থায় ছিলো। কিন্তু ধীরে ধীরে আলোচনার গতি ও পরিবেশ বদলাতে শুরু করে। একসময় দেখা গেলো, সবাই মনোযোগী হয়ে উঠেছে এবং সক্রিয়ভাবে আলোচনায় অংশ নিচ্ছে।

সবচেয়ে আনন্দের বিষয় ছিলো, তারা যখন নিজেদের আবেগ প্রকাশ করা শুরু করলো। অনেকেই শেয়ার করলো শৈশবের খেলা— যেমন এক্কা দোক্কা খেলার স্মৃতি। কেউবা জানালো, প্রকাশ্যে কাঁদতে চায়, আবেগ প্রকাশ করতে চায়। সেই মুহূর্তে বোঝা গেলো, তাদের ভেতরে লুকিয়ে থাকা অনুভূতিগুলো কতটা গভীর, আর আলোচনার মাধ্যমে তারা ধীরে ধীরে তা প্রকাশের সাহস পাচ্ছে।

সেশনের শেষদিকে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা জানালো, তারা এই আলোচনায় আরো গভীরে যেতে চায়। এমনকি একসাথে নিয়মিত বসে ম্যাস্কুলিনিটি গ্রুপ SALT সেশন চালিয়ে যেতে আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছে।

আমার কাছে এটি ছিলো অনুপ্রেরণার মতো একটি অভিজ্ঞতা। কারণ, এই সেশন শুধু একটি আলোচনা নয়, বরং তরুণদের আবেগ, অনুভূতি এবং মানসিক জগতকে নতুনভাবে চিনে নেওয়ার সুযোগ এনে দিয়েছে।
