I have been facilitating SALT process in Bongaigaon on child health but during COVID-19 lockdown these villages are responding to COVID on their own.
Some families of Kerkhabari village of Bongaigaon, Assam (INDIA) had get the problem on essential food for Lock down. They are daily wage earners and dependent on daily income for survival.
Actions
Action number 1. Daily wage earners are not able to go out during lock down and their families do not have food. So, SALT champions discussed this problem with village head man and some respectable persons of the village. After the discussion a person of the village donated some funds and the champions, youth of the village took responsibility and distributed some essential food items to the poor families of their community by those funds. (See photos sent to me by Pronab Kumar Ray from village Kerkhabari)
Action no 2. hand wash facility install at public place for the community.
Action no 3. all the sub roads were blocked by champions and youth for not entering the unknown person. (On the phone, I am encouraging them for physical distance and using face masks for protection.)
My learning as facilitator from this experience- Due to COVID-19, I cannot go to the villages to work . When community adopts SALT, it can find a solution in case the organisations cannot go to support them.
