Evanescent fireworks or a blossoming tree: which image would best represent last week’s Global Learning Festival in Mauritius? For my part the blossoming tree better represents what happened to us here last week because our festival will bear fruit. We left the festival with happy determination to act differently on the basis of what we had learned with communities over the week.
For me, the travel to Mauritius was a travel within, as each meeting gave me the opportunity to deepen my personal understanding of SALT. I learned a lot, but I choose to focus on this: I got to understand that to look at the positive is still to judge. To truly appreciate I need to give my analytical mind a rest and connect fully with the heart. Then I do not just connect with the people in the room but together we connect with the broader universe. And that broader connection might explain why I get so much energy from the practice of SALT.
What will we do differently when we go home? Each response on the last day of the GLF was different, as it was the result of our personal travels within. But each response was authentic and beautiful. For my part, I’ll make a conscious effort to appreciate what is.
For years, we have understood that to achieve large scale change, scaling out response from community to community was the way to go. I now realize more than ever that we need to combine scaling out with scaling in, the beautiful journey within.

Dear JL,
Thank you for sharing your experience...." to look at the positive is still to judge. To truly appreciate I need to give my analytical mind a rest and connect fully with the heart". The beautiful journey within...
