What we learned in facilitating SALT visit?

Community Life Competency Process (CLCP) training’s first and second face to face sessions were conducted on the 25 & 26 of May 2013 and 14 & 15 of June 2013 in UN Conference hall Kathmandu Nepal. There were 34 participants. These participant were divided in 4 groups in first face to face session. They were assigned to facilitate SALT in communities before coming to second face o face session. Here is their learning which they shared on 14 June while Ritu ask them: What did you learn as a SALT facilitator?

1. Enable Environment

• Create friendly learning environment
• Maintain Comfort Zone
• Sense of humor is essential
• Techniques of ice breaking for rapport building, introduction,sitting arrangement

2. Active Listening

• Proper eye contact, body language, paraphrasing help explore more
• Listening more talk less
• Patience

3. Art of asking question

• Asking right and open question lead to sharing rather than answering
• Participatory Approach

4. Keep SALT in TRACK

• Pre brief introduction
• Explain objectives of visits
• Participatory
• Be specific
• Group Approach
• Positive Attitude: Passion, tolerance & play with words, open minded
• Flexibility: Time, content, discussion
• Responsible and Accountable
