 People have a perception about the Harijan Dalit community in Bangladesh that Harijans and Dalits are small communities. They are untouchable people. They can not travel, eat and live together. They live in a community of their own. Where people of other communities do not live. Most people don't know about them. What are Harijans and Dalits? How many casts are there among them? Their work is about culture. The Harijan community in Bangladesh consists of eight castes. Like Hela, Basfor, Dom, Domar, Rahut, Hari, Valmiki, Lalbeghi. Dalit community has more than 48 communities. Like Telugu, Rishi, Komar, Dalu, Mala, Nunia, Bean, Teli, Karmakar, Jale, Patni, Rajvanshi, Ravidas, Tamil etc. Each has a different language and culture. After being a marginalized community themselves, they too have created discrimination among themselves. People of one community do not eat and drink in another community. But the people of Harijan community are called the people of the lowest society. They are involved in clean profession. Dalit community is engaged in various occupations. Such as shoe sewing, fishing, hair cutting, da boti making, tea workers etc. etc. Arshirbad Organization works for the rights of the Dalit community. Arshirbad Organization aims to integrate the Dalit Harijan community into the mainstream of society. This task is not so easy. Where there is lack of education and poverty. Discrimination among themselves can be observed to extremes. Arshirbad Organization  is a Community Based Organization. However, a good opportunity and platform has been created for Arshibad organizations to work in conjunction with the GFC. Where SALT is able to stir people from within through conversation. An example is Deepa Rani Chauhan, board member of Arshirbad Organization  Dalit girl. Deepa thought that the Harijan community was low caste. Deepa did not g to their house. He never ate food. He did not eat and drink together when there was a committee meeting of Arshirbad Organization. When we were having salt conversations with each other in the Arshirbad committee, a change was noticed in Deepa.Discrimination from within has ended. He now sits and eats with everyone. Discusses salt conversion. It is indeed a matter of great pleasure to me. Discrimination has been removed from our committee. Hopeful salt conversation will eliminate discrimination from within the society. We can reach our goal one day. Now the slogan will be salt conversation with everyone, there will be disharmony among everyone.

বাংলাদেশে হরিজন দলিত জনগোষ্ঠী সম্পর্কে লোকেদের একটা ধারনা আছে হরিজন এবং দলিত জনগোষ্ঠী হচ্ছে ছোট সম্প্রদায়। তারা হচ্ছে অস্পৃশ মানুষ। তাদের সাথে চলাফেরা খাবার খাওয়া একত্রে বসবাস করা যায় না। তাদের বসবাসের জন‍্য রয়েছে একটা নিজস্ব কমিউনিটিতে বসবাস করে। যেখানে অন‍্য সম্প্রদায়ের লোক বসবাস করেনা। বেশীর ভাগ মানুষ তাদের সম্পর্কে জানেই না। হরিজন এবং দলিত কি। তাদের মধ‍্যে কতগুলো কাস্ট রয়েছে। তাদের কৃষ্টি কালচার সম্পর্কে। বাংলাদেশে হরিজন সম্প্রদায় এর মধ‍্যে রয়েছে আটটি কাস্ট। যেমন হেলা, বাসফোর, ডোম, ডোমার, রাহুত, হাড়ি, বল্মীকি, লালবেগী। দলিত জনগোষ্ঠীর রয়েছে 48টির ও বেশী সম্প্রদায়। যেমন তেলেগু, ঋষি, কোমার, ডালু, মালা, নুনিয়া, বীন, তেলি, কর্মকার, জেলে, পাটনি, রাজবংশী, রবিদাস,তামিল ইত‍্যাদি আরো অনেক। প্রত‍্যেকের রয়েছে আলাদা আলাদা ভাষা ও কৃষ্টি কালচার। নিজেরা মার্জিনালাইজড কমিউনিটি হওয়ার পর ও তারাও তাদের মধ‍্যে বৈষম্য সৃষ্টি করে রেখেছে। এক সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ আরেক সম্প্রদায়ে উঠাবসা খাওয়া দাওয়া পযর্ন্ত করেনা। তবে হরিজন সম্প্রদায় এর মানুষ কে সবচেয়ে নিচু সমাজের লোক বলা হয়। তারা পরিছন্ন পেশায় জড়িত বলে। দলিত জনগোষ্ঠী বিভিন্ন পেশায় নিয়োজিত রয়েছে। যেমন জুতা সেলাই, মাছ ধরা, চুলকাটা, দা বটি তৈরী করা, চা শ্রমিক ইত‍্যাদি ইত‍্যাদি। আর্শিবাদ সংস্থা দলিত জনগোষ্ঠীর অধিকার আদায় নিয়ে কাজ করে। আর্শিবাদ সংস্থার লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে দলিত হরিজন জনগোষ্ঠীকে সমাজের মূল স্রোতধারায় মিশিয়ে দেয়া। এই কাজটি এত সহজ নয়। যেখানে শিক্ষার ও দারিদ্রতার অভাব রয়েছে। তাদের নিজেদের মধ‍্যেই বৈষম্য চরমভাবে পরিলক্ষিত করা যায়। আর্শিবাদ সংস্থা হচ্ছে কমিউনিটি বেইজড অরগানাইজেশন। তবে আর্শিবাদ সংস্থার জন‍্য ভালো একটি সুযোগ এবং প্লাটফর্ম তৈরী হয়েছে তারা GFC এর সাথে যুক্ত কাজ করার সুযোগ পেয়েছে। যেখানে SALT কনভারশেশন এর মাধ‍্যমে মানুষের ভিতর থেকে আলোড়ন সৃষ্টি করতে পারছে। উদারণ হচ্ছে আর্শিবাদ সংস্থা বোর্ড সদস‍্য দিপা রানী চৌহান। দলিত সম্প্রদায়ের মেয়ে। দিপা মনে করতো হরিজন জনগোষ্ঠী নিচু জাতের। তাদের বাসায় দিপা যাতায়াত করতো না। খাবার সে কখনই খায়নি। আর্শিবাদ সংস্থার কমিটির মিটিং হলে সে একসঙ্গে খাওয়াদাওয়া করতো না। যখন আমরা আর্শিবাদ কমিটির প্রত‍্যেকে প্রত‍্যেকের সাথে সল্ট কনভারশেশন করছিলাম তখন লক্ষ্য করা গেল দিপার ভিতর এর পরিবর্তন।তার ভিতর থেকে বৈষম্য শেষ হয়েছে। সে এখন সবার সাথে বসে খাওয়াদাওয়া করে। সল্ট কনভারশেশন নিয়ে আলোচনা করে। এটা সত‍্যি আমার কাছে অনেক আনন্দের বিষয়। আমাদের কমিটির মধ‍্য থেকে বৈষম্য দূর হয়েছে। আশাবাদী সল্ট কনভারশেশনের মাধ্যমে সমাজের ভিতর থেকে বৈষম্য দূর হবে।আমরা একদিন আমাদের লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছাতে পারবো। এখন স্লোগান একটাই করবো সকলের সাথে সল্ট কনভারশেশন, হবে বৈষম দূর সকলের মাঝে।
