Create a supportive network for mental health: Insights from a home visit

My colleague and friend, Syjo & I did not know what to expect when we started for the visit. This would be our first effort to using SALT in the community.  When we reached, I noticed that the neighborhood was quiet and physically close-knit, offering little privacy. The home was neat and minimalistic, containing only essential, functional items, with nothing to make it particularly pleasant or welcoming—no TV, for instance. The sole caregiver and the sibling of the client was in the middle…See More

Reflections on power

Posted on February 13, 2024 at 1:01pm 4 Comments

The PIECES team and I had SALT sessions with in-person Rituu B. Nanda 2 weeks back. It was an overwhelming experience, where I am still not able to articulate clear, concrete takeaways. However, there have been a lot of shifts in how I think/feel about myself, how I communicate, and how I relate to others.

One of the things I keep revisiting in my head is the discussion about power dynamics. Throughout our…

Reflecting on my SALT conversations

Posted on December 19, 2023 at 10:00am 2 Comments

Rituu B. Nanda has been guiding me and my colleagues on the SALT methodology, encouraging us to incorporate more SALT conversations. For me, the conversations happen naturally, when I suddenly think of SALT & wonder ‘What would be a positive, more curious response?.’ While I can often identify strengths and genuinely appreciate them, expressing appreciation occasionally feels awkward, disrupting the flow of the conversation. Exploring strengths through conversation :)

Recently, in a candid conversation with a friend, I asked him a question that caught him off guard: "What makes you feel proud?" His immediate response was that pride seemed like too high an emotion to truly experience. Intrigued, I followed up with another question: "Can you recall any incidents from your past that brought you happiness?" Although he hesitated at first, he eventually opened up, sharing a few instances where his work had taken him around the world, offering him a lot…
