We all are Japanese today !

The agony of the Japanese humanitarian crisis continues where earthquake ,after tremors and devastating tsunami rendered millions of people without water, electricity, homes and what have you. The series of unfortunate developments at the nuclear reactors are the proverbial 'last straw'(hope and pray they are the last ones)breaking the camel's back.It is extremely difficult not to think of Hiroshima while thinking of Fukushima and other parts of the land of rising sun devastated by rising of…See More

Do we need to take HIV outside the exclusive public health domain ?

Dear All,The epidemic of HIV is a genuinely cross-cutting issue knowing no real or notional borders in its progression or the adverse outcome(s).There is no denial of the fact that HIV/AIDS does have a strong biomedical component, say in terms of laboratory testing for HIV in ICTCs and the blood banks, treatment ofsexually transmitted infections/reproductive tract infections (STIs/RTIs) andmanagement of AIDS as a chronic manageable disease through the anti-retroviraltherapy (ART) and what have…See More

Frequent episodes of ‘honour killings’ in certain communities, interwoven with and strengthened by the traditional local beliefs, continue unabated in this part of the Indian peninsula.Such matrimonial alliances between consenting adults are seen to have ' brought dishonour to the family'; the couples having defied time-honoured traditions and therefore must flee for their lives lest they become victims of ‘honour killing’ committed by the kith or kin. Some of the couples on the run were either…See More

Interested in the proactive role of the community at large in assertion of right to health (with a focus on the health management with built in community systems strengthening besides mere health systems strengthening in isolation)and issues pertaining to access to equitable quality healthcare.
My dream:
Establishment of the right to health as a fully promoted, protected and widely asserted human right. Everyone must see their definite role and contribute for his/her health-which is perceived in its totality and not just as equivalent of health-care.

The socio-economic,cultural and environmental determinants of health must form the core of the perspectives and pursuits accordingly. The need to act on Community Systems Strengthening(CSS) and Social Change Communication(SCC) must be realized at all quarters.
I'm proud of:
Meaningful and faciliitatory participation of the infected and affected community in the entire continuum of prevention, care, support and treatment of HIV/AIDS and containment of the second epidemic of stigma and discrimination faced by the PLHIV.

Greetings Dr. Gopaul in the name of the most High Jah Rastafari...I am indeed heartened that you are adding your voice to a worthy cause, that is, Women's Rights as it relates to their welfare and security. It has been fifteen years since the Beijing Declaration which is a comprehensive narrative on what needs to be done to ensure that women are treated with care, love and respect..here in Guyana Domestic Violence has become so pervasive that almost daily one can read of women being killed by their spouses. It is really very disconcerting and disheartening...I pray for brighter days for us...

Hi Dr. Rajesh, your exposee on the IWD was quite educative especially to young and aspiring women of this century. I have a few worries for women; alot has not changed in their favour over the past one hundred years, many are still deprived of the right to belong or share. What is the way forward?
I enjoyed it,
