Dear Bobby,

Many thanks for proposing a spectacular process that is bringing together all elements we discussed so far.
My only concern would be how this would fit the modest budget we have for this one, 700 USD per country.
Would you mind exploring that for the India side of the story?

Some detailed comments on the steps you propose,

1. Yes! We could keep this a living document that we update as we go. Do you feel like proposing a first draft to the team, Bobby?

6. Nice. Could post on Ning to make it available to a larger group and friends in Kenya could watch at their own time. Could announce them in the Welfare Centers in Kenya, what do you think Carol?

8. Budget concern?

Look forward to hear from others as well. How do you see this interwoven with a Kenya process (and budget) Onesmus?

Thanks all for contributing to the exploration of possibilities. This is new and can be revolutionary, lets allow ourselves the patience to find our way in this opportunity.

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Marlou

Dear team,

The vision is indeed growing big! I am excited to hear about this.

We had the weekly power cut day yesterday and hence could not access internet.

Considering the new opportunities, I suggest the following steps:

1. We develop a common process note for SALT visits
2. We approach and influence TCIF to join this learning opportunity
3. Nagaland and Delhi/Gurgaon truckers plus SALT team members watch the existing videos from Kenya AND
4. In country SALT visits happen in Kenya and India (Dimapur + Delhi/Gurgaon)
5. We have a SKYPE or Video conference chat happen between Nagaland and Delhi first, and share experiences. A couple of key team members from Kenya can join in the skype chat if this is feasible.
6. The skype chat video be saved and sent to Kenya and be displayed to all the trucker team mates who are able to see it.
7. Post the outcomes of the discussion on Ning for gaining further insight and participation from other teams around the world
8. SALT visits continue. The deepening of knowledge / experience can influence the conversations during further SALT visits
9. Key questions for further discussion be refined based on the sharing of experience that has already happen in India
10. These questions be shared with all participating teams (Kenya and India)
11. India Kenya video conversation happen
12. Final debriefing / knowledge Assets / Further action plans

What do you think?

Friends,

I have just written to the secretariat of GDLN http://www.gdln.org/ to explain our intentions with this connection for learning between truck drivers in Kenya and India. I have worked with GDLN on a series of video-conferences some 8 years ago, and their facilities offered good services then. They may be providing the technical solution we need. Thanks to Onesmus for bringing them back in the loop!
In parallel Rafique and Rituu keep exploring and they have ideas about involving a bit network of truckers, who also have their own video conferencing facilities. They will keep us posted on how that is going. While we are finding the technical solutions to have the groups connected, could we start a discussion on what specific questions the groups will focus when they will carry out a SALT visit in their own context?

Dear Friends,

Some Indian experiences shared on this platform

Read Prabakar’s experience: When I started my work with truckers on HIV, I had several prejudices about them as any other person in the community …
http://aidscompetence.ning.com/profiles/blogs/travelling-down-the-r...

If you scroll down on the same url you will find what Rafique has to say: Your experiences brings to my mind, the ones I have had with Truckers when we set up the National program in its second avatar, namely the BMGF funded one...

Warmly,

Rituu

Dear Marlou,
Great to see the emerging team.
I traveled to Nairobi last week to explore on the Video conference with Kenyatta University. Unfortunately i learnt that they did the Video Conference thing in 2001.It was purely project oriented and was terminated after the close of the project.

I will this week explore with the UNON and get back to you before the end of the week.
Our Mlolongo wellness centre moderator (Carol) and Petronila who are both from Mlolongo SALT team will be joining this groups ASAP.

Thank you once again.

There are no more islands left ! I am glad to be immersed into the SEA OF FRIENDS.
ACP has opened a new world of experiences for me. Enriching to be part of so many who share life experiences. Great! Thanks to Rituu, who kept on encouraging me to join. I finally did it today 22/09/09.

Dear Friends,

It is so encouraging to see the sharing of good practices taking of so nicely already. Onesmus, could you help Nicholas in joining the group as well. It would be great if he could also be in the loop.

Furthermore I was wondering if Onesmus and Rafique/Rituu have been able to find information on availability of video conference space, including the possible costs. This would help us to see what can be done within the modest budget available, AND to set a concrete timeline for activities. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Dear Team,
I have added a few video reflecting the experienced gained by Truckers and PLHAs in the GLIA competence process.
They may serve as a warm on what knowledge is common and can be shared across the two regions.
Thanks.
