Echoes of Alokito Kori: A Knowledge Fair I Still Carry Within Me

২৪ এপ্রিল ২০২৬, আলোকিত করির জ্ঞানমেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। প্রায় দেড় মাস পেরিয়ে গেছে, কিন্তু সেই দিনের স্মৃতিগুলো এখনো যেন একদম টাটকা। তাই আজ বসে গেলাম আমার কিছু অনুভূতি আর অভিজ্ঞতা লিখতে।

সেদিন সকালে খুব ভোরে আমরা রওনা হয়েছিলাম। সৌভাগ্যবশত রাস্তায় তেমন যানজট ছিল না। গুগল ম্যাপের ভরসায় যাত্রা শুরু করলেও মাঝপথে পারভেজ ভাই দিকনির্দেশনা দিয়ে অনেক সাহায্য করেছিলেন। তাঁর সহযোগিতায় আমরা BRED টিম সময়মতো গন্তব্যে পৌঁছে যাই।

পৌঁছে দেখি, হরিজন পল্লীর শিশু ও কিশোর-কিশোরীরা তখনো ভেন্যু সাজানোর কাজে ব্যস্ত। আগের রাত জেগে তারা অনেক যত্ন করে সাজিয়েছিল, কিন্তু প্রচন্ড বাতাসে তার অনেকটাই নষ্ট হয়ে গিয়েছিল। বিষয়টি দেখে খারাপ লাগলেও আরও বেশি মুগ্ধ হয়েছিলাম তাদের মনোভাব দেখে। তারা একটুও হতাশ হয়নি। সবাই মিলে আবার নতুন করে সব সাজিয়ে তুলছিল।

তখন মনে হয়েছিল, কোনো কমিউনিটি যখন একটি কাজকে নিজের বলে মনে করে, তখন সেই কাজের প্রতি তাদের দায়িত্ববোধও অন্যরকম হয়। যেমন, আমাদের বাসায় অতিথি আসার আগে আমরা নিজেরাই ঘর গুছিয়ে পরিপাটি করি, ঠিক তেমনভাবেই তারা নিজেদের উদ্যোগে পুরো আয়োজনটি সুন্দর করে তুলছিল।

আমাদের উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা জানানো হয়েছিল তাদের নিজেদের হাতে তৈরি পায়েস খাইয়ে। এরপর পুরো সময়জুড়েই তারা খোঁজ নিচ্ছিল—ঠান্ডা পানি লাগবে কি না, কোনো কিছুর প্রয়োজন আছে কি না। তাদের আন্তরিকতা সত্যিই মন ছুঁয়ে গিয়েছিল।

অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতেই রূপালির গল্প আমাদের গভীরভাবে স্পর্শ করে। পুঁতির কাজের প্রতি তার দক্ষতা সত্যিই অসাধারণ। নিজের ভেতরের শক্তি ও সম্ভাবনাকে চিনে নিয়ে সে আত্মবিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে এগিয়ে চলেছে। নিজে শিখেছে, আবার অন্যদেরও শেখাচ্ছে। তার তৈরি পুঁতির অলংকার, চুড়ি, কী-রিং দেখে আমরা সবাই মুগ্ধ হয়েছিলাম। এমনকি সে আমাদের কয়েকটি কী-রিং উপহারও দিয়েছিল। ছোট্ট সেই উপহারগুলোর সঙ্গে জড়িয়ে ছিল অনেক আন্তরিকতা।

পিংকি দিদির উদ্যোগের কথাও মনে আছে। তিনি শিশুদের স্কুলে ভর্তি করানোসহ নানা ইতিবাচক কাজ করছেন। তাদের পল্লীর বেশিরভাগ মানুষ ঘরে হিন্দিতে কথা বলেন। ফলে অনেক শিশুরই বাংলা পড়া ও বুঝতে সমস্যা হতো। এই কারণেই অনেকেই স্কুলে যেতে আগ্রহ হারিয়ে ফেলছিল। তখন কয়েকজন মিলে বাংলা শেখানোর উদ্যোগ নেন। এখন সেই শিশুদের আর বাংলায় পড়তে তেমন সমস্যা হয় না। বিষয়টি আমাকে ভীষণ আশাবাদী করেছে।

শিশুদের ক্লে আর্ট এর কাজও আমাকে অবাক করেছে। এত ছোট ছোট হাত, অথচ কী অসাধারণ সৃজনশীলতা! তাদের তৈরি শিল্পকর্মগুলো ছিল সত্যিই মনোমুগ্ধকর। তাদের প্রতিভা দেখে বারবার মনে হচ্ছিল—সুযোগ পেলে এই শিশুরা কত দূর যেতে পারে!

মুন্সিগঞ্জ কমিউনিটি থেকেও একটি অনুপ্রেরণামূলক অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করা হয়। কীভাবে একজন ঝরে পড়া শিক্ষার্থী আবার পড়াশোনায় ফিরে এসেছে, সেই গল্প শুনে ভালো লেগেছিল। আশীর্বাদ থেকে শান্তি দিদি হরিজন সম্প্রদায়ের ইতিহাস সুন্দরভাবে তুলে ধরেন এবং তাদের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন। তিনি মনে করিয়ে দেন, আমাদের চারপাশ পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্ন রাখতে এই সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষের অবদান কত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

গ্র ইউর রিডার থেকে সেলিম ভাই তাদের স্কুলের গল্প তুলে ধরেন। অন্যদিকে, আমাদের হাসিনা আপা ব্রেড এর বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগ এবং পদ্মা দলের সেলাই ও কুশিকাঁথার কাজ সবার সামনে তুলে ধরেন। এতে অন্যরাও অনুপ্রাণিত হচ্ছিলেন।

এত কিছু দেখতে, শুনতে আর শিখতে শিখতে কখন যে সকাল গড়িয়ে বিকেল হয়ে গিয়েছিল, বুঝতেই পারিনি।

সবশেষে ছিল তাদের নৃত্য পরিবেশনা। আমি ব্যক্তিগতভাবে নাচ দেখতে খুব পছন্দ করি। তাই এই অংশটি আমাকে সবচেয়ে বেশি আনন্দ দিয়েছিল। তাদের প্রাণবন্ত পরিবেশনা যেন পুরো দিনের ক্লান্তি ভুলিয়ে দিয়েছিল। প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক দক্ষতা ছাড়াও কি সুন্দর নৃত্য জানে একেক জন।

জ্ঞানমেলায় অংশ নিয়ে আমি শুধু বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগ সম্পর্কে জানিনি, বরং অনেক মানুষের গল্প, সংগ্রাম, চেষ্টা আর সম্ভাবনার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হয়েছি। নিজের অভিজ্ঞতার ঝুলিতে যোগ হয়েছে আরও একটি সুন্দর স্মৃতি।

হয়তো এই কারণেই দেড় মাস পেরিয়ে যাওয়ার পরও দিনটির কিছুই ভুলে যাইনি। কিছু আয়োজন শেষ হয়ে যায়, কিন্তু তার অনুভূতি অনেক দিন পর্যন্ত আমাদের ভেতরে বেঁচে থাকে।

আলোকিত করির জ্ঞানমেলা আমার কাছে তেমনই এক উষ্ণ, অনুপ্রেরণাময় এবং মনে রাখার মতো অভিজ্ঞতা।

24 April 2026. Although nearly one and a half months have passed since the Alokito Kori Knowledge Fair took place, the memories of that day still feel incredibly fresh. Perhaps that is why I finally decided to sit down and write about my experiences and reflections.

We set out early in the morning. Fortunately, there was very little traffic on the roads. Guided by Google Maps and supported by Parvez Bhai's timely directions along the way, our BRED team arrived at the venue right on schedule.

As soon as we reached, we saw that the children and adolescents from the Harijan community were still busy decorating the venue. They had stayed up late the previous night preparing everything with great care, but strong winds had damaged much of their hard work.

While it was disheartening to see, what impressed me even more was their attitude. They did not lose hope or complain. Instead, they came together and started decorating all over again.

At that moment, I realized that when a community truly takes ownership of something, their sense of responsibility becomes extraordinary. Just as we tidy and prepare our homes before welcoming guests, they were doing everything themselves to ensure the event reflected their pride and commitment.

They welcomed us warmly with bowls of payesh. Throughout the day, they kept checking on us—asking whether we needed cold water or anything else. Their hospitality and thoughtfulness genuinely touched my heart.

One of the first stories that deeply moved us was Rupali's journey. Her beadwork skills were remarkable. Through recognizing her own strengths and potential, she had gained confidence and begun moving forward with determination. Not only had she taught herself these skills, but she was also teaching others. We were all fascinated by the beautiful ornaments, bangles, and key rings she had created. She even gifted us a few handmade key rings. Those small gifts carried immense warmth and sincerity.

I was equally inspired by Pinki Didi's initiatives. She has been actively working to enroll children in school and supporting various positive changes within the community.

Most families in the settlement speak Hindi at home, making it difficult for many children to understand and study in Bangla. As a result, several children gradually lost interest in attending school. In response, a few community members took the initiative to teach them Bangla. Today, many of these children no longer struggle with reading Bangla. This simple yet powerful effort gave me immense hope.

The children's clay art amazed me as well. Such tiny hands, yet such extraordinary creativity. Their artwork was truly captivating. Looking at their creations, I kept thinking how far these children could go if only they had the right opportunities and encouragement.

We also heard an inspiring story from the Munshiganj community about a student who had dropped out of school but later returned to continue their education. It was a reminder that second chances can transform lives.

Shanti Didi from Ashirbad beautifully shared the history of the Harijan community and expressed gratitude for their contributions. She reminded us that the cleanliness and hygiene we often take for granted are sustained through the hard work of this community.

Selim Bhai from Grow Your Reader shared stories from their school initiatives. Meanwhile, our own Hasina Apa presented BRED's initiatives and showcased the embroidery and Nakshi Kantha work of the Padma Team, inspiring many others in the audience.

Amidst all the stories, conversations, and learning, I did not realize when morning had quietly turned into evening.

The day ended with vibrant dance performances by the children and adolescents. I personally love watching dance, so this part brought me immense joy. Their performances were full of life and energy. What impressed me even more was realizing how beautifully they danced without any formal institutional training. Their talent and confidence lit up the entire atmosphere.

By participating in the Knowledge Fair, I gained much more than an understanding of different initiatives. I encountered stories of struggle, resilience, creativity, and hope. I witnessed the power of community ownership and the strength that emerges when people recognize their own potential.

Another beautiful memory found its place in the collection of experiences I carry with me. Perhaps that is why, even after one and a half months, I have not forgotten a single detail of that day. Some events come to an end, but the feelings they leave behind stay with us for a long time.

For me, Alokito Kori's Knowledge Fair was one such experience—warm, inspiring, and truly unforgettable.
