Bara: Discovering Community Strength, Culture, and Hospitality in Kalaiya

Our journey to Kalaiya, Bara, was much more than a field visit it was an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the culture, traditions, and everyday realities of the communities where SAKHI (Mahilako Sathi) has been working for years. From the moment we began our trip, every destination, conversation, and experience offered a new perspective on the richness and resilience of the region.

As we traveled towards Kalaiya, we visited several landmarks that reflect the unique identity of the Madhesh region. The bustling surroundings of the Birgunj Clock Tower, the peaceful beauty of Gadhawa Lake, the spiritual atmosphere of Surya Narayan Temple, and the vibrant activity along the Raxaul border each told a different story about the area's cultural, religious, and economic significance. These visits provided a deeper appreciation of how history, faith, and

 

 

commerce shape the daily lives of local people.

The most meaningful part of the journey, however, began when we arrived at Triveni Settlement, a community where SAKHI has been supporting various social and development initiatives. Here, we had the privilege of meeting community members, listening to their experiences, and learning about the changes taking place in their lives. Women, youth, and community leaders openly shared stories of challenges they had overcome, opportunities they had created, and dreams they continued to pursue. Their determination and optimism demonstrated the power of collective effort and community-driven development.

What stood out most was not only the progress achieved but also the strong sense of ownership and pride within the community. The conversations revealed how local people are actively contributing to positive change, proving that sustainable development is most effective when communities themselves are at the center of the process.

The warmth of the community became evident the moment we were welcomed with traditional Gamchhas draped around our shoulders. This simple yet meaningful gesture reflected a culture of respect, generosity, and heartfelt hospitality. Although the summer heat was intense, the genuine smiles and friendly interactions created a sense of comfort that far outweighed the temperature. We felt less like visitors and more like honored guests welcomed into a larger family.

No cultural experience is complete without food, and Bara offered a memorable culinary experience. We had the opportunity to taste Thekuwa, a beloved local delicacy known for its rich flavor and cultural significance. Sharing local food with community members created an atmosphere of connection and mutual appreciation.

One of the most refreshing moments of the visit was spending time in a beautiful Mango Orchard. Beneath the cool shade of the mango trees, surrounded by greenery and accompanied by the sounds of nature, we found a peaceful escape from the summer heat. It was a moment that encouraged reflection not only on the beauty of the environment but also on the value of slowing down and connecting with people and place.

As the day unfolded, it became clear that the true highlight of the visit was not any particular location or activity, but the relationships built through meaningful interaction. The community's hospitality, resilience, and commitment to progress left a lasting impression on us. Their stories reminded us that development is not simply about infrastructure or resources; it is about empowering people, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for communities to thrive.

Looking back, our visit to Bara was an enriching experience filled with learning, inspiration, and human connection. It reinforced the belief that every community has valuable knowledge, unique strengths, and powerful stories waiting to be shared. The memories of Triveni Settlement, the warmth of its people, the taste of Thekuwa, and the tranquility of the mango orchard will remain with us long after the journey has ended.

 बारा यात्रा: समुदाय, संस्कृति र आत्मीयताको अविस्मरणीय अनुभव

मिति २०८३ जेठ १० गतेदेखि १२ गतेसम्म बारा जिल्लाको कलैयामा रहेको SAKHI (महिलाको साथी) संस्थाको अध्ययन भ्रमणमा सहभागी हुने अवसर प्राप्त भयो। यो भ्रमणले नयाँ ठाउँ हेर्ने मात्र नभई समुदायको जीवनशैली, संस्कृति र विकासका प्रयासहरूलाई नजिकबाट बुझ्ने अवसर प्रदान गर्यो।

कलैया पुग्ने क्रममा हामीले वीरगञ्ज घण्टाघर, गढवा ताल, सूर्य नारायण मन्दिर तथा रक्सौल सीमा क्षेत्रको अवलोकन गर्यौं। यी स्थानहरूले मधेश क्षेत्रको धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक तथा आर्थिक महत्वबारे थप जानकारी प्राप्त गर्न सहयोग गरे।

 

भ्रमणको सबैभन्दा महत्वपूर्ण पक्ष भनेको SAKHI ले काम गरिरहेको त्रिवेणी बस्तीको भ्रमण थियो। त्यहाँ पुगेर समुदायका सदस्यहरूसँग प्रत्यक्ष छलफल गर्ने अवसर मिल्यो। विशेष गरी महिलाहरूले आफ्नो जीवनका अनुभव, संघर्ष, उपलब्धि र भविष्यका योजनाहरू खुलस्त रूपमा साझा गर्नुभयो। उहाँहरूका कथाहरू सुन्दा कठिन परिस्थितिमा पनि निरन्तर अगाडि बढ्ने आत्मविश्वास र साहसको अनुभूति भयो।

समुदायमा पुग्दा स्थानीय बासिन्दाहरूले गम्छा ओढाएर हार्दिक स्वागत गर्नुभयो। यो स्वागतले हामीलाई अत्यन्त सम्मानित र आत्मीय महसुस गरायो। चर्को गर्मीका बीच पनि समुदायको माया, सद्भाव र आतिथ्यताले मनलाई शीतल बनायो।

भ्रमणका क्रममा त्यहाँको प्रसिद्ध परिकार ठेकुवा ,दाल रोटी खिर र स्थानिय उत्पादन तरकारि खाने अवसर पनि प्राप्त भयो। स्थानीय स्वाद र संस्कृतिको परिचय गराउने यो परिकार निकै स्वादिष्ट लाग्यो। साथै, हामीले आँपको बगैँचामा केही समय बिताउने अवसर पायौं। गर्मी मौसम भए पनि आँपका रुखहरूको छहारीमा बसेर प्रकृतिको आनन्द लिन सकियो। हरियाली वातावरण, शीतल हावा र समुदायका सदस्यहरूसँगको आत्मीय संवादले त्यो क्षणलाई अझ विशेष बनायो।

यस भ्रमणले समुदायको शक्ति भनेको त्यहाँका मानिसहरूको एकता, मेहनत र सकारात्मक सोचमा रहेको कुरा बुझ्न मद्दत गर्यो। SAKHI संस्थाले समुदायसँग मिलेर गरिरहेको कामले महिलाहरू तथा समुदायका अन्य सदस्यहरूको जीवनमा सकारात्मक परिवर्तन ल्याउन सहयोग गरिरहेको देख्न पाइयो।

समग्रमा, बारा भ्रमण मेरो लागि केवल अध्ययन भ्रमण मात्र नभई सिकाइ, आत्मीयता, संस्कृति र प्रेरणाले भरिएको अविस्मरणीय अनुभव बन्यो। त्रिवेणी बस्तीका समुदाय सदस्यहरूको न्यानो स्वागत, ठेकुवाको मिठास, आँपको बगैँचाको शीतलता र समुदायका प्रेरणादायी कथाहरू सधैं सम्झनलायक रहनेछन्।

 CWSN र SAKHI प्रति हार्दिक धन्यवाद, जसले हामीलाई त्रिवेणी समुदायका सदस्यहरूसँग एक-अर्काबाट सिक्ने, अनुभव आदान–प्रदान गर्ने तथा आपसी समझदारी र सम्बन्धलाई अझ बलियो बनाउने वातावरण र अवसर सिर्जना गरिदिनुभयो।

বারা সফর: সম্প্রদায়, সংস্কৃতি ও আন্তরিকতার এক অবিস্মরণীয় অভিজ্ঞতা

 

২০৮৩ সালের জ্যৈষ্ঠ ১০ থেকে ১২ তারিখ পর্যন্ত বারা জেলার কলাইয়ায় অবস্থিত SAKHI (মহিলার সাথী) সংস্থার একটি শিক্ষামূলক সফরে অংশগ্রহণের সুযোগ হয়েছিল। এই সফর শুধু নতুন স্থান দেখার মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ ছিল না, বরং সম্প্রদায়ের জীবনধারা, সংস্কৃতি এবং উন্নয়নমূলক উদ্যোগগুলোকে কাছ থেকে জানার একটি মূল্যবান সুযোগও এনে দিয়েছিল।

 

কলাইয়ায় পৌঁছানোর পথে আমরা বীরগঞ্জ ঘড়িঘর, গড়ওয়া তাল, সূর্য নারায়ণ মন্দির এবং রক্সৌল সীমান্ত এলাকা পরিদর্শন করি। এসব স্থান আমাদের মধেশ অঞ্চলের ধর্মীয়, সাংস্কৃতিক এবং অর্থনৈতিক গুরুত্ব সম্পর্কে আরও ভালোভাবে জানতে সাহায্য করেছে।

 

সফরের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ ছিল SAKHI-এর কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত ত্রিবেণী বসতি পরিদর্শন। সেখানে গিয়ে সম্প্রদায়ের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে সরাসরি আলোচনা করার সুযোগ পাই। বিশেষ করে নারীরা তাঁদের জীবনের অভিজ্ঞতা, সংগ্রাম, অর্জন এবং ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনার কথা খোলামেলাভাবে শেয়ার করেন। তাঁদের গল্প শুনে কঠিন পরিস্থিতির মধ্যেও এগিয়ে যাওয়ার আত্মবিশ্বাস ও সাহসের পরিচয় পাওয়া যায়।

 

সম্প্রদায়ে পৌঁছানোর পর স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা আমাদের গামছা পরিয়ে আন্তরিকভাবে স্বাগত জানান। এই অভ্যর্থনা আমাদের অত্যন্ত সম্মানিত এবং আপন মনে করিয়েছিল। প্রচণ্ড গরমের মধ্যেও তাঁদের ভালোবাসা, সৌহার্দ্য এবং আতিথেয়তা মনকে প্রশান্ত করেছে।

 

সফরের সময় সেখানকার বিখ্যাত খাবার ঠেকুয়া, ডাল-রুটি, ক্ষীর এবং স্থানীয়ভাবে উৎপাদিত সবজি খাওয়ার সুযোগও হয়। স্থানীয় স্বাদ ও সংস্কৃতির পরিচয় বহনকারী এসব খাবার ছিল অত্যন্ত সুস্বাদু। পাশাপাশি আমরা কিছু সময় একটি আমবাগানে কাটানোর সুযোগ পাই। গরম আবহাওয়া সত্ত্বেও আমগাছের ছায়ায় বসে প্রকৃতির সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করা যায়। সবুজ পরিবেশ, শীতল বাতাস এবং সম্প্রদায়ের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে আন্তরিক আলাপচারিতা সেই মুহূর্তগুলোকে আরও বিশেষ করে তুলেছিল।

 

এই সফর আমাকে উপলব্ধি করতে সাহায্য করেছে যে একটি সম্প্রদায়ের প্রকৃত শক্তি তার মানুষের ঐক্য, পরিশ্রম এবং ইতিবাচক চিন্তাধারার মধ্যে নিহিত থাকে। SAKHI সংস্থা সম্প্রদায়ের সঙ্গে মিলেমিশে যে কাজ করছে, তা নারীদের এবং অন্যান্য সদস্যদের জীবনে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে বলে প্রতীয়মান হয়েছে।

 

সার্বিকভাবে, বারা সফর আমার জন্য শুধুমাত্র একটি শিক্ষামূলক সফর ছিল না; এটি ছিল শিক্ষা, আন্তরিকতা, সংস্কৃতি এবং অনুপ্রেরণায় ভরপুর এক অবিস্মরণীয় অভিজ্ঞতা। ত্রিবেণী বসতির মানুষের উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা, ঠেকুয়ার মিষ্টতা, আমবাগানের শীতলতা এবং সম্প্রদায়ের অনুপ্রেরণামূলক গল্পগুলো দীর্ঘদিন মনে থাকবে।

 

CWSN এবং SAKHI-এর প্রতি আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা, যারা আমাদের ত্রিবেণী সম্প্রদায়ের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে পারস্পরিক শেখা, অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময় এবং পারস্পরিক বোঝাপড়া ও সম্পর্ককে আরও শক্তিশালী করার জন্য একটি সুন্দর পরিবেশ ও সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করে দিয়েছেন।
