A Winter Story of Hope

  কিছুদিন আগে আমাদের মনিরা আপু আর তার টিমের সদস্যরা সিদ্ধান্ত নেই এই শীতে কিছু অসহায় মানুষকে তারা শীতবস্ত্র দিবে নিজেরা টাকা তুলে। তার কয়েকদিন পরেই আমি কাটাখালিতে রংধনু টিমের সাথে আমি একটা গ্রুপ সল্ট করি। সেখানে তাদের সাথে মনিরা আপু আর তার টিমের এই উদ্দ্যোগ এর কথা শেয়ার করি। তারা বলেন আসলেই কিছু অসহায় মানুষ এই শীতে অনেক কষ্টে জীবন যাপন করছেন। তারা বললো তারাও কিছু করতে চায় বাকি টিমের মতো। তারপর তারা কথা অনুযায়ী তাদের প্রতিবেশী কেউ এরকম দরিদ্র আছে কিনা নিজেরাই সেটার খোঁজ নেয়ার চেষ্টা করেন। খুজতে খুঁজতেই তারা খোজ পায় অত্যন্ত অসহায় এবং দরিদ্র একজন মা ও মেয়ের। শীতের রাতে তাদের যে নাজুক অবস্থা সেটি তারা নিজেরা পর্যবেক্ষণ করে বুঝতে পারেন। তারপর তারা কিভাবে তাদেরকে সহযোগিতা করতে পারে সে বিষয়ে সবাই খোলামেলা আলোচনা করেন। তখন পদ্ম টিমকেও তারা ইনভাইট করেন। পরে নিজেরা নিজেদের মধ্যে ১০ টাকা ২০ টাকা চাঁদা তুলে প্রায় ৩০০ টাকার মত সংগ্রহ করে। তাদের থেকে এই বিষয়টা জানার পর আমি আমার বাজারের বড় ছেলেদের টিমের সাথে বিষয়টা শেয়ার করি। এখানে ৩-৪ জন আরো ২০০ টাকা তোলেন। পরে মোট ৫০০ টাকার মত হলে শীত বস্ত্র কিনে তারা নিজেরাই নিজেদের হাতে দরিদ্র দাদী এবং তার মেয়েকে তুলে দেন। সকল টিমের আন্তরিক সহযোগিতায় বৃদ্ধ দাদীটি ও তার মেয়ে এই হাড় কাঁপানো শীতে কিছু বস্ত্র পেয়ে খুবই আনন্দিত। শুধু আনন্দিত বললেই ভুল হবে রংধনু টিম, পদ্ম টিম এবং বড় ছেলেদের টিমের সবাইকে নিজেদের অন্তরের অন্তস্থল থেকে তাদেরকে দোয়া এবং আশীর্বাদ করেন তারা যেন এই ধরনের আরো ভালো ভালো উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করতে পারেন। পরে দুই টিমের সবাইকে একত্রে করে আমি পরে জানতে চাই কাজটি করতে পেরে তাদের কেমন লেগেছে তারা সবাই বলছে এই ধরনের কাজ করতে পেরে তারা খুবই গর্বিত। ভবিষ্যতে তারা উনাদের খোঁজ খবর রাখবেন পাশাপাশি কমিউনিটিতে অন্যান্য দরিদ্র লোকদেরও তারা খুঁজে বের করবেন যারা অনেক অসহায়। তাদেরকে কিভাবে সেবা করা যায় সেটা তারা করবেন। এই কাজটি করতে গিয়ে তারা এটাও ঠিক করেছে যেহেতু ওনাদের বিদ্যুৎ নেই সামনে গরমের দিনে উনাদের খুব কষ্ট হবে তাই ওরা উনাদের বিদ্যুতের ব্যবস্থা করার চেষ্টা করবে। তারা তাদের এলাকার বিদ্যুৎ মিস্ত্রির সাথে কথা বলে কিছু টাকা তুলে তাদের বিদ্যুৎ এনে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করবে। এছাড়া সামনে নির্বাচনে কোন প্রার্থী এলে তাকে ওনাদের বিষয়টি জানাবে। যেহেতু ওরা নিজেরা ইনকাম করতে পারে না ওরা নিজেরা অল্প কিছু চাঁদা তুলে উনাদের খাদ্য সামগ্রী দেওয়ার কথাও তারা চিন্তা করছে। এই ছোট উদ্যোগই প্রমাণ করে—একসাথে চাইলে, সামান্য সহযোগিতাতেই কারও জীবনে বড় পরিবর্তন আনা সম্ভব।    A few days ago, Manira Apa and the members of her team decided that this winter they would provide warm clothes to some helpless people by collecting money among themselves. A few days later, I held a group discussion with the Rongdhonu Team in Katakhali. There, I shared Manira Apa and her team’s initiative with them. They said that indeed many helpless people are living in great hardship during this winter. They also expressed their desire to do something, just like the other teams. As discussed, they began looking around on their own to see if there were any poor and helpless people in their neighborhood. While searching, they found an extremely helpless and impoverished mother and daughter. By personally observing their fragile condition on cold winter nights, they truly understood how difficult their situation was. After that, everyone openly discussed how they could help them. At that time, they also invited the Padma Team to join the effort. Later, by contributing small amounts of 10 or 20 taka each, they managed to collect around 300 taka. After learning about this, I shared the matter with my Bazar’s elder boys’ team, where 3–4 more members contributed another 200 taka. When the total amount reached around 500 taka, they bought winter clothes and personally handed them to the poor elderly grandmother and her daughter. With the sincere cooperation of all the teams, the elderly woman and her daughter were extremely happy to receive some warm clothing during this bone-chilling winter. Saying they were merely happy would be an understatement—they prayed from the depths of their hearts and gave their blessings to the members of the Rongdhonu Team, Padma Team, and the elder boys’ team, wishing that they would be able to take many more such good initiatives in the future. Later, I brought the members of both teams together and asked how they felt about being able to do this work. They all said they felt very proud to be part of such an initiative. In the future, they plan to keep in touch with the family and also look for other poor and helpless people in the community, thinking about how they can serve them. While doing this work, they also decided that since the family has no electricity, they would suffer greatly during the upcoming summer. Therefore, they will try to arrange electricity for them. They plan to talk to a local electrician and collect some money to help bring electricity to their home. In addition, if any candidate comes to the area during the upcoming election, they will inform them about this family’s situation. Since the family cannot earn an income themselves, the teams are also considering collecting small donations to provide them with food supplies. This small initiative proves that when people come together, even a little help can bring a big change in someone’s life.
