Hello everyone, we are from Rural Aid NGO work with support from Global Fund for Children is in Alipurduar District, Kalchini block (State of West Bengal, India). We work in the tea gardens on the issue of trafficking and child labour. We have already working on SALT approach in 10 teagardens of Kalchini Block.
Here are different individual view from our team that Why do we do SALT?
Pancham- We do SALT that people understand their strength, so that they are able to solve their own problems. We have to encourage them.
Nityam- in the community have solved some of their problems before for their neighbourhood, through SALT we are building their strengths, so that they realise their strengths and each other strengths. They will learn that they have lot of knowledge within them. And when the project finishes, they will try to find solutions themselves, they will not need us.
Ujana- they mix up with us and mix up with others in the community just like SALT. As is the goal of our org, the community members try to solve the problems in the village.
Rati-Objective of SALT is that how can they understand their qualities and strengths. They currently believe that NGO or Govt will solve their problems. When they realise their strengths, it will ignite in them the feeling that they can solve their solutions. They are getting motivated.
Dheeraj-to know the pulse of the community, what their inner strength is and what is their dream; this will give ownership to the community
Sanjay – Through SALT we can know the community’s Strength and understand their home or personal problem. SALT is one of process where the community intimate easily. And from the SALT it is can help the individual person problem to solve themselves
