The 5 A's
Assess, Advise, Agree, Assist, Analyse
1. Feedback: Offer feedback from what you observe not what you perceive. If feed back is not requested, dont volunteer it or else you will be criticizing.
2. Challenge: Effective mentors ask questions and make suggestions that lead/challenge their charges to make workable decisions that they are comfortable with.
3. Introduce: Encourage your charges to experience new situations, this could mean including them in networking events and/or introducing them to different work experiences.
4. Enthusiastic: The more you put into the programme, the more both you and your charges will gain.
