Those Who Keep the Community Alive Are the Real Change-Makers : যারা কমিউনিটিকে জীবিত রাখেন, তারা প্রকৃত পরিবর্তনের রূপকার

Geeta Didi and Sumi Didi spoke with a tone of nervousness, saying, “Can we really speak properly? None of us have ever given an interview like this before.” With a smile, I softly told them, “Didi, why don’t you just sit on the set once and see?”

Today’s story is not about the community itself -it’s about those who bring the community to life. It’s about two of our incredible facilitators from ECDO (Ethnic Community Development Organisation) , Geeta Didi and Sumi Didi.

On the 15th and 16th of October 2025, the ECDO team organized an exposure visit in collaboration with Alokito Kori, aiming to strengthen learning and knowledge exchange through observing community and office activities. Our organization, Alokito Kori, works with two distinct communities, the Dalit and the Bede and through this visit, we hoped to learn and get inspired by the journeys of ECDO’s facilitators under the SALT and CLCP approach. To join this visit, Geeta Didi and Sumi Didi with ECDO team traveled all the way from Sylhet to Dhaka ,a distance of 245 kilometers to share their stories and experiences.

Under the GFC-funded ARC initiative, Alokito Kori has been leading podcasts among six organizations from the Bangladesh cohort. So, having them in Dhaka was a wonderful opportunity, we decided to record a podcast with them. The first session featured the Executive Director of ECDO, Lakshmikanta Singh, and the following one featured two facilitators from two different ethnic communities -Geeta Didi from the Munda community and Sumi Didi from the Patra community.

At first, the four walls, the camera setup, the microphones, and the host, everything felt new and intimidating. These two women, who usually walk through tea gardens and talk to hundreds of people daily, suddenly looked hesitant in front of the camera. But soon after the introductions, the nervousness disappeared, their words started to flow naturally.

Maybe because even though the idea of a podcast was new, what wasn’t new was their deep connection and devotion to their communities. They began to describe their communities so beautifully, where women work tirelessly in tea gardens all day and return home with only a small earning, facing countless challenges. Yet, these same women act as the torchbearers of change within their own communities.

They recalled the early struggles, how one of them learned tailoring and later trained other women, and how nine students from the community passed their SSC exams and managed to enroll in college through community led initiative support. Each story they told was full of pride, their own story of resilience and growth.

Our facilitators are truly the heart of the ARC initiative. You can feel their hard work and commitment through every story they share. Despite obstacles, they repeatedly return to their communities, listen to people, motivate them, and stand beside those who are often left behind.

Today’s blog is not just to appreciate Geeta Didi and Sumi Didi, but to express my heartfelt respect to all our ARC facilitators. Because of their tireless efforts, diverse communities have begun to identify their own pathways to solving problems. Through continuous SALT conversations, they are helping people from all walks of life take the next step toward positive change.

A big thank you to all facilitators like Geeta Didi and Sumi Didi, may the wave of change continue through your hands. Finally, heartfelt thanks to ECDO for visiting Alokito Kori and giving us such a meaningful opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences.

গীতা দিদি এবং সুমী দিদি বেশ ভয়ের সুরেই বলছিলেন," আমরা কি আদো সুন্দর করে কথা গুছিয়ে বলতে পারবো? এভাবে কখনো ইন্টারভিউ দেয়ার অভ্যাস আমাদের কারো নেই।"
তখন খুব অবলীলায় বলেছিলাম," দিদি,একবার বসেই দেখেন না সেট এ?"

আজকের গল্পটি কমিউনিটিকে নিয়ে নয়,গল্পটা হলো কমিউনিটির যারা প্রাণ তাদের নিয়ে।আমাদের ECDO- Ethnic Community Development Organisation এর Facilatator দের মধ্যে গীতা দিদি ও সুমী দিদি কে নিয়ে। এই মাসের গত ১৫ ও ১৬ তারিখে কমিউনিটি ও অফিস ভিজিটের লক্ষ্যে একটি এক্সপোজার ভিজিট আয়োজন করে আমাদের অফিস আলোকিত করিতে।পাশাপাশি আমাদের অরগানাইজেশান আলোকিত করি যে ভিন্ন দুটো কমিউনিটি -হরিজন ও বেদে কমিউনিটি নিয়ে কাজ করে তাদের জীবন-যাপন ও SALT & CLCP approach এর সাথে কমিউনিটির পথচলা থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত হতেই সেই সুদুর সিলেট থেকে ২৪৫ কিলোমিটার পথ পাড়ি দিয়ে তারা ঢাকায় আসেন।
GFC funded এই ARC initiative এ বাংলাদেশ কোহোর্টে ৬ টি অরগানাইজেশান এর সাথে পডকাস্ট আয়োজনের দায়িত্ব নেয় আলোকিত করি, অরগানাইজেশান।
তাই তাদের এতো কাছে পেয়ে আলোকিত করি আয়োজন করে তাদের সাথে পডকাস্ট। শুরুতে আমরা সংগঠনটির এক্সিকিউটিভ ডিরেক্টর লক্ষীকান্ত সিংহের পডকাস্ট আলোচনা করি এবং পরবর্তী পডকাস্ট হয় একই সংগঠনের দুজন ফ্যাসিলেটেটর এবং একই সাথে ভিন্ন দুটো কমিউনিটির ফ্যাসিলেটেটর এর সাথে- গীতা দিদি, মুন্ডা কমিউনিটির ও সুমী দিদি, পাত্র কমিউনিটির সাথে।

প্রথম দিকে চার দেয়াল,ক্যামেরা সেটিং,মাইক্রোফোন এবং হোস্ট সব কিছুই ছিলো তাদের জন্যে একদম নতুন।তাই সারা চা-বাগান ও কমিউনিটি দাপিয়ে বেড়ানো মানুষ দুজনের চোখে মুখে ছিলো কিছুটা শঙ্কা। তবে পডকাস্টের পরিচয়পর্বের পর পরেই খুলে গেলো দুজনের কথা বলার বাধ।
কারণ -হয়তো পডকাস্ট শব্দটি নতুন,ক্যামেরার সামনে বসে কথা বলাটা নতুন কিন্তু এই যে কমিউনিটিকে তারা মনে প্রাণে ধারণ করেছেন তা একেবারেই তাদের আপন।
কি সুন্দর করে বিবরণ দিচ্ছিলেন একেকজন নিজেদের কমিউনিটিকে নিয়ে।
যেই কমিউনিটিতে নারীরা চা-বাগানে সারাদিন কাজ করেন এবং দিন শেষে সামান্য কিছু উপার্জন করেন,যারা বিভিন্ন প্রতিকুলতার মাঝে নিজেদের সমাজের সাথে লড়াই করেন ঠিক তাদের ই দূত হয়ে কাজ করেন চা-বাগানের নারীরা।
একই সাথে শুরুর দিকের চ্যালেঞ্জিং সময়গুলোকে রোমন্থন করতে থাকেন।
কিভাবে একজন নিজে সেলাই এর কাজ শিখে কমিউনিটির বাকীদের সেলাই এর কাজ শেখান, কিভাবে একই কমউনিটি ৯ জন এসএসসি পরীক্ষায় পাস করে কমিউনিটি ও অরগানাইজেশান এর উদ্যোগে ফান্ডিং যোগাড় করে কলেজে ভর্তি হয়েছে এমন হেরে না যাওয়া নানান গল্প কি অবলীলায় তারা বলছিলেন। প্রত্যেকটি গল্প যেন তার নিজের রচিত গল্প,তেমন গর্ব করেই বলছিলেন কিভাবে এখন তারা হয়ে উঠেছেন কমিউনিটির আস্থার পাত্র।

আমাদের ARC initiative এর প্রাণ হিসেবে আমাদের ফ্যাসিলেটেটরদের জুড়ি নেই।কতটা অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম করেন তারা তা তাদের গল্প গুলো শুনলেই অনুভব করা যায়। প্রতিকূলতা পেরিয়ে বার বার তারা ফিরে যান কমিউনিটির কাছে,পরিচিত হন, উৎসাহ দেন,এগিয়ে দেন সমাজের সেই তথাকথিত পিছিয়ে পরা মানুষটিকে।
তাই আজকের ব্লগ টি শুধু গীতা দিদি বা সুমী দিদি কে উদ্ভুদ্ধ করতে নয় বরং আমি ARC এর সকল ফ্যাসিলেটেটরদের আমার মন থেকে সম্মান জানাতে চাই।
তাদের অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রমের জন্যেই আজ ভিন্ন ভিন্ন কমউনিটি তাদের জীবনের সমস্যা সমাধানের পথ চিহ্নিত করতে পেরেছে। তাদের অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রমের ফলেই আমরা দেখতে পাই কিভাবে নানান পেশার, নানান মন-মানসিকতার মানুষের সাথে মিশে SALT conversation করে সমাজের মানুষকে তারা এগিয়ে দিচ্ছেন পরের অধ্যায়ে।

গীতা দিদি ও সুমী দিদির মতোন সকল ফ্যাসিলেটেটরদের ধন্যবাদ জানাই।
পরিবর্তনের জোয়ার আসুক,আপনাদের হাত ধরেই।
