২৬ শে নভেম্বর ২০২৫ আমরা ব্রেড টিম মুন্সিগঞ্জ তালতলা কমিউনিটির উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হই। সেখানে গিয়ে তাদের কমিউনিটির অবস্থা দেখে রূপকথার গল্পের মত মনে হয়েছিল আমার। নদীর ভিতরে ছোট ছোট ডিঙি নৌকায় তাদের বসবাস। সেই নৌকায় আবার নেই শক্ত কোন ছাউনি । একটু বৃষ্টি এলেই পানিতে ভিজে যায় সবকিছু।ছোট্ট একটি নৌকা তার ভিতরেই শোবার জায়গা খাবার জায়গা রান্নার জায়গা আবার শৌচাগার ও। আবার তাদের জীবিকায়ন খুবই স্বল্পমাত্রার আয়ের । নারীরা থালা বাসন বিক্রি করে আর পুরুষেরা মাছ ধরে কিছু ফেরি করে এমন কিছু কিছু লোক অন্যের ভ্যান ভাড়ায় চালায়। যখন তারা কাজে যায় তাদের ছোট ছোট ছেলেমেয়েদের রেখে যায় তার ভিতরে যে বড় একটু সে তাদের ছোট ছোট ভাই বোনের দায়িত্ব বহন করে। এভাবেই তারা বসবাস করে প্রায় 40 -45 বছর আগে থেকে। এদের ভিতরে আবার যে একটু আয় বেশি করে তারা ঐ নদীর ধারে ভাড়াবাড়িতে বসবাস করেন।

তাদের জীবনযাত্রা আর আমাদের কমিউনিটির জীবনযাত্রা রাত দিনের পার্থক্য। তাদের সাথে কথা বলে জানতে পারলাম তাঁদের কমিউনিটি ছেলেমেয়েদেরকে অন্য কমিউনিটির ছেলে মেয়েরা খুব অবহেলার চোখে দেখে। অন্যান্য মানুষের সাথে মিশতে গেলে তাদেরকে দূর দূর করে তাড়িয়ে দেয়। এত অবহেলিত জনগোষ্ঠীকে আলোকিত করি টিম অনেক ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন এনেছে। তাদেরকে দিয়েছে তাদের ভেতরকার শক্তি কাজে লাগিয়ে উন্নত জীবন যাপনের পথ চলার উদ্দেশ্য বা ক্ষমতা।

তারা এখন একত্রিতা হয়ে অন্য কমিউনিটি মানুষের সাথে মিশতে পারে। তারা স্কুলে লেখাপড়া করে। আবার ওদের মেধা বা প্রতিভা এতটাই প্রখর যে আমি না দেখলে বিশ্বাস করতে পারতাম না।

কি করে সম্ভব এই কমিউনিটির শিশুরা এত কিছু পারে। ছবি আঁকা কবিতা লেখা সবার সাথে সুন্দর করে মেশা বা কথা বলা। আরো মুগ্ধ হয়েছিলাম ওদের নাচের পারফরম্যান্স দেখে। ওই গ্রুপে শ্রাবন্তী ও মিথিলা নামের দুটো শিশু খুব সুন্দর ডান্স পারফর্ম করে। নাচ যেন থামতেই চাইছিল না ওদের দুজনের ভেতর থেকে।

ওরা আমাদের দেখে এতই মজা পেয়েছিল যে আমাদেরকে ছেড়ে দিতেই চাইছিল না। ওদের ভিতর এত আন্তরিকতা এত মানবতা সেটা ওদের কাছে না গেলে বুঝতেই পারতাম না যে এই জীবনে বসবাস করেও ওদের ভেতরটা কত মানবিক। এ থেকে বোঝা যায় মানুষের দ্বারা সবকিছুই সম্ভব।

On 26 November 2025, our BRED team started the journey toward the Taltala (river-nomad) community in Munshiganj. When we reached there and witnessed their lifestyle, it felt like stepping into a fairytale. Small boats floating in the middle of the river — those boats are their homes. Yet, there is no strong roof or safe shelter. A little rain is enough to drench everything inside.

Inside those tiny boats lies their entire life — a place to sleep, cook, eat, and even a toilet, all in one small space. Their source of income is also very limited. Women sell utensils, men catch fish or work as hawkers, while some drive rented vans to survive. When adults go out for work, the slightly older children stay back and take care of their younger siblings. This is how they have been surviving for the last 40–45 years. Those who earn a little more manage to live in rented houses beside the riverbank.

Their lifestyle and ours stand on two opposite ends like day and night. While talking with them, I learned that the children of the community are often treated with neglect by the children of other communities. When they try to mix or play with others, they are pushed away and excluded. Such a marginalized population — yet Alokito Kori has brought remarkable positive change among them. By helping them discover and use their inner strength, the organization has guided them towards building a better life with dignity.

Now they stay united, confidently mix with people from outside communities, and their children go to school. Their intelligence and talent astonished me — something I would not have believed had I not seen it myself. Their ability to paint, write poetry, interact confidently, and speak beautifully was beyond my expectation. What moved me even more was their dance performance. Two children, Srabonti and Mithila, performed so gracefully that it seemed like their rhythm would never end — it flowed from deep within them.

They were so happy to have us there that they did not want us to leave. The sincerity, warmth, and humanity within them touched my heart. Despite living in such difficult conditions, their compassion remains pure and vibrant — something you can only feel when you sit among them. This experience proved to me that with people, everything is possible.
