I am Sharmin.I've always seen myself as a quiet, somewhat introverted person. But there are some journeys that redefine our understanding of ourselves. That trip to Dhaka in April 2025—was such a turning point in my life.Being part of the“2025 Knowledge Fair:Reshaping Education” wasn’t just an honor—it changed me.People from across South Asia came together, under the shade of diverse languages and cultures, united by a shared dream—to build a child- and adolescent-friendly society. And yet,one core belief bound us all: education is not just about books, education is life itself.
I had known about the SALT approach before, but SALT (Stimulate, Appreciate, Learn, Transfer) is more than a technique—it’s a philosophy. It’s not about giving people external solutions but awakening the power that already lies within them.I witnessed this for the first time when invited by Grow Your Reader Foundation,I visited a school and saw teachers, parents and children together shaping a different world of learning—where every voice mattered.
But what about my own story? That was even more inward.
I had never imagined myself as someone who could speak on a stage. My voice would tremble, my insides would twist. Yet that day, that same trembling voice became filled with courage.Rituu, Lipika Didi and Vaibha Da—three people who not only stood by me but believed in the courage within me.When Vaibha Da found out that I sketch,he said—“Draw a sketch and then speak to it.Imagine you're simply talking to a person.”That inspiration changed me.Rituu kept repeating,“We can do it, we will do it”—and with that belief,I stood on stage.I spoke,I gave a presentation and I looked people in the eye and shared our story.
In that moment,I didn’t just speak—I conquered my fear.I didn’t just learn something new—I discovered a new version of myself.
Another moment that deeply touched me during this convening—
was Rodri’s sharing on Masculinity. His words made me reflect—
on how emotions, feelings and tears belong to both men and women.Instead of division, empathy is what matters. That realization lit a candle within me.
I also learned the value of working as a team. We didn’t just support one another—we dreamt together. We didn’t see self-assessment as external pressure but as a mirror for reflection. That is why today I know—this journey wasn’t just a conference,it was a transformation.Solutions don’t come from outside—they’re hidden within us.
Every moment of this journey, every person I met, brought new light into my life.I am truly grateful to have been a part of this fair.GFC, Grow Your Reader,ECDO, BRED,Ashirbad,Alokito Kori—and so many other partner organizations—I was fortunate to meet friends from all of them. Together,we created a learning space that will continue to guide me on my path like a beacon.
And from the depth of my heart,I say—
Change is only sustainable when it comes from within.
