বেশ কয়েক মাস আগে ব্যাসপুর কাটাখালি কমিউনিটিতে ম্যাস্কিউলিনিটি সল্টের মাধ্যমে আমার একটি টিম হয়েছিল। সেই টিমের নাম তারা দিয়েছিল পদ্ম। টিমে ৭ জন ছেলে আছে। আমি বেশ কিছু গ্রুপ সল্টের মাধ্যমে তাদের সাথে কথা বলেছিলাম কাজের মধ্যে ছোট-বড়, ছেলে-মেয়ে ভাগ আছে কিনা সেই সম্পর্কে।

৩ দিন আগে আমি দেখলাম, আমার টিমের ৫ জন ছেলে- রুদ্র বিশ্বাস, সম্রাট, রুদ্র দাস, পল্লব ও নিলয় আমাদের পাড়ার একটি যজ্ঞে সেচ্ছাসেবক হিসেবে কাজ করছে। তারা এই অনুষ্ঠানে খাবার বিতরন করছে। আগে এই অনুষ্ঠানে প্রসাদ বিতরণের দায়িত্ব সামলাতেন গ্রামের বড়রা। কিন্তু ব্যস্ততার কারণে অনেক সময় বড়দের উপস্থিতি কম থাকত, ফলে ভক্তদের ভিড়ে বিতরণে বিশৃঙ্খলা তৈরি হতো। আর এবার পদ্ম টিমের এই পাঁচ তরুণ এগিয়ে আসে এই সময়ে। তারা কোনো পারিশ্রমিক না নিয়েই, টানা তিন দিন ধরে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক হিসেবে প্রসাদ বিতরণে কাজ করেছে। তাদের নিষ্ঠা, শৃঙ্খলা ও আন্তরিকতা দেখে নাম যজ্ঞ কমিটির বড়রাও মুগ্ধ হয়েছেন।

অনুষ্ঠান এর পরে আমি তাদের থেকে জানতে চাইলাম এবার তারা কেন এই অনুষ্ঠানে সেচ্ছাসেবকের কাজ করলো? এই প্রশ্নের উত্তরে রুদ্রের কণ্ঠে গর্ব আর আনন্দ মিশে ছিল। সে জানালো, “ম্যাস্কুলিনিটি পার্সোনাল সল্ট আর গ্রুপ সল্টের মাধ্যমে আমি বুঝতে পেরেছি যে কাজের কোনো ছেলে-মেয়ে, বড়-ছোট হয়না। সব বয়সেই সাধ্যমতো সবাইকে কাজে সাহায্য করা দরকার। তাই এবার যখন আমরা দেখলাম যে বড়দের একটু সাহায্য দরকার অনেক মানুষ সামলানোর জন্য তখন আমরা সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম যে আমরা তাদের সাথে হাতে হাত রেখে যতটুকু সম্ভব কাজ করবো। আর তাছাড়া আপনি আমাদের আমাদের ভালো কাজের জন্য প্রশংসা করতেন। এটা থেকেও আমাদের উৎসাহ আসে আরও ভালো কিছু করতে।"

সম্রাট বলেছে- " গত বছর আমার বাবা এই দায়িত্ব টা নিয়েছিল। এবং ওনার উপর অনেক চাপ ছিল। আগে ভাবতাম এগুলো আমার কাজ না। কিন্তু এই বছর আমরা যখন একসাথে কথা বলতে বসতাম আপনার সাথে, তখন বুঝেছিলাম যে চাইলে আমিও এখন থেকে ছোট খাটো কাজে সবাইকে সাহায্য করতে পারি। আর তাই এবার বাবাকে একটু সাহায্য করতে আসছি"।

ওদের কথা শুনে আমি খুব আনন্দিত হয়েছি যে অল্প কিছুদিনের আলোচনার মাধ্যমে ওদের মানসিকতায় কিছুটা হলেও পরিবর্তন এনেছে। ওরা ভাবতে শুরু করেছে। বড়রাও ওদের প্রশংসা করছে আর ওরা আরো উৎসাহ পাচ্ছে। এই ঘটনার মধ্য দিয়ে বোঝা যায় তরুণরা যখন প্রশংসা ও সম্মান পায়, তারা সমাজের দায়িত্ব নিতে আগ্রহী হয়। ছোট উদ্যোগই বড় পরিবর্তনের সূচনা করতে পারে। আজ পদ্ম টিমের এই স্বেচ্ছাসেবী প্রয়াস কেবল একটি কাজ নয়, বরং সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ ও ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তনের এক সুন্দর গল্প যা সবার হৃদয়ে অনুপ্রেরণা ছড়ায়।

A few months ago, through the Masculinity SALT process in the Byaspur–Katakhali community, I formed a team. They named themselves Padmo — a group of seven young boys. Through several group SALT sessions, we discussed whether tasks in their community were still divided by gender or age — whether some work was considered only for men, women, elders, or youth.

Just three days ago, I saw five members of my team — Rudra Biswas, Samrat, Rudra Das, Pallab, and Niloy — working as volunteers at a Naam Yajna (religious gathering) in our neighborhood. They were distributing food (prasad) to the devotees. In the past, this responsibility was handled by the elders of the village. However, due to their busy schedules, they often couldn’t be present, which sometimes led to disorder in the crowd. This year, the five young men from the Padmo Team stepped forward to help. Without taking any payment, they volunteered for three consecutive days to distribute prasad with full dedication, discipline, and sincerity. Their commitment impressed even the senior members of the Naam Yajna committee.

After the event, I asked them why they decided to take part as volunteers this time. Rudra, with a tone filled with pride and joy, replied, “Through the Masculinity Individual SALT and Group SALT sessions, I’ve realized that no work should be seen as belonging only to boys, girls, elders, or children. Everyone should help according to their ability. So, when we saw that the elders needed some support to manage the large crowd, we decided to join hands with them and help as much as we could. Also, you often appreciated us for our good work — that encouragement inspired us to do even better.”

Samrat added, “Last year, my father took this responsibility, and it was a lot for him to handle alone. I used to think these things weren’t my duty. But during our group discussions with you, I understood that even I can help in small ways. That’s why this year I came forward to assist my father.”

Hearing their reflections made me truly happy. In just a few months of discussion, I could see a positive shift in their mindset. They have started thinking differently. The elders are praising them, and that appreciation is motivating them even more. This shows that when young people receive appreciation and respect, they become eager to take responsibility for their community. Small initiatives can indeed spark big changes. Today, the volunteer effort of the Padmo Team stands not merely as an act of service, but as a beautiful story of collective action and positive transformation — one that spreads an inspiring melody in every heart.
