"There is nothing as palpable and wonderful as sharing a story about our lives, or telling a folk tale that we know, and not giving a moral or explanation, but just seeing what it reminds people of."

I recently spoke with the award-winning New York-based storyteller Laura Simms for Arukah Network's 'How To Build Community' podcast. You might enjoy it:

Good question Rituu! I think Laura caused me to reflect on how storytelling in my own British context is too often seen as 'escapism', not as something that can be imbued with deep meaning, and that can enrich our lives.

For example, I went to watch the most recent Star Wars film with my Dad a year or two ago. Afterwards, I was really excited by what the film had had to say about universal themes (e.g. power, nature, resistance), but my dad's review was that it was entertaining, but ultimately 'pointless'.

Hi Jake what are your reflections after Laura's podcast?

You might enjoy her blog on application of SALT in storytelling https://aidscompetence.ning.com/profiles/blogs/focus-on-strength-as...
