Hi to my LIfe Competence Family

I am pursuing a Social Work Programme and we were given a few assignments so I used SALT to get the assignments done. It was observed that the students who were strong were pushing ahead, so there was need to find a way to get all involved. We rearranged our position as a team and first listened to everyone's ideas and highlight our strengths. The assignment was based on Egypt's ways of communication and culture - everyone were not good at speaking but there were some who can dance and role play, so instead of doing a verbal presentation on facts and figures we decided to Role-play. The presentation was a success. The group was able to paint a picture of the way of dress, greetings, dance, pray and fasting methodolagies, relationship - friends, family, business.

It was great, all were involved the strong speakers spoke, the dancers danced and the actors acted. This was my new way of adding SALT. The group also learned the SALTY way of doing things.

The class is supposed to be visiting the the Female inmates of the Prison, so we will take the approach with us on November 17, 2010. Must let you know how that went.

Hi Paula,

How did the visit to the female prison go? I'm curious how your students practices appreciation of the prisoners. I find it challenging sometimes to go to places where we have prejudice and to let these go...

Dear Paula,

This was a superb way of revealing strengths! Reminded me of what Deepak Chopra has said, Whenever people actually find their own song to sing, their deep-seated sense of self-doubt begins to be released, leaving a space for creativity to fill.

Thanks for sharing.

Warmly,

Rituu

Hi Paula,

I think it will be an interesting exchange between students and the women in prison. It can be a life changing experience. What a beautiful idea to come to better understanding of each other. They will probably have some prejudices before going (as many of us) but if they look for strengths they will find so many...

good luck,

laurence
