"From Vision to Reality: Child Club Opens in Nichhe Line, Bhatpara"

by Nityam Ghosh, SALT Facilitator, Rural Aid Organization

In the heart of the Necheline area of Bhatpara Tea Garden, a quiet but powerful transformation is underway. Through the SALT approach—a process that inspires communities to reflect on their strengths, share aspirations, and take collective action—women have begun to give voice to their dreams. And from those dreams, something beautiful has emerged.

One vision stood out among the rest: the creation of a space where children could learn, grow, and thrive together. After heartfelt discussions and planning, the community decided to take the first step—by forming a Child Club.

From Vision to Action

The idea was simple but profound. The women, along with adolescent girls, male guardians, young boys, and community supporters—including a potential ASHA worker—would come together to guide and nurture the children of their village.

Key points of their plan included:

Holding club meetings in the village community courtyard.

Starting the club with an initial group of 10 to 20 children.

Creating a collaborative facilitation team drawn from across the community.

Educating children about their rights, the value of education, and essential life topics.

A Joyful Beginning

On April 6, 2025, this shared dream took a remarkable step forward. A group of dedicated women and young female leaders officially launched the Child Club with 15 enthusiastic children. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and laughter as the children took part in games and engaging activities specially organized for them.

The day was not just a celebration—it was a milestone. The smiles on the children's faces and the sense of ownership among the facilitators marked a new chapter in community-led development.

Looking Ahead

Encouraged by the success of the launch, the community proposed that these sessions continue on a weekly basis, every Sunday. With each gathering, the club aims to become a safe and inspiring space where children can explore their potential and learn about their rights and responsibilities.

This initiative is more than just a club—it's a testament to what can happen when communities come together, believe in their dreams, and act on them with unity and purpose.
