Empowered Through SALT: Learning, Listening, and Growing

As a newcomer to the ARC initiative, I was introduced to SALT. At first, although I had learned many approaches in academia and other initiatives, the SALT approach felt entirely different and new to me. Through practice, I realized that SALT is not just a method, it is a journey of learning, building relationships, and creating change. SALT stands for Support, Appreciate, Listen, and Transfer, and it allows us to learn from each other, listen sincerely, and find inspiration in one another.

Each session has been a unique experience for me. At times, it feels as if I am talking to myself. Listening to others’ life stories, I often see reflections of my own life. Step by step, through meaningful conversations, I realize how connected I become to people’s dreams, proud moments, and life experiences.

When someone shares their dreams or moments of pride, I feel inspired. SALT is not just about engaging with others, it is also a journey of self-discovery. Recognizing people’s strengths, motivating them, and witnessing community-led initiatives emerging all give me energy and drive to do more.

Alongside this, SALT and CLCP have taught me how a community can identify its own strengths, skills, and dreams. It encourages people to use their capabilities, share with one another, and collectively find solutions. CLCP fosters hope, unity, and enthusiasm within a community.

Not only at the cohort level, but I have also had the opportunity to engage in SALT conversations within the community. These experiences gave me deep insights that I could never have imagined. From small details to bigger visions, I came to know about the dreams, proud moments, and daily struggles of community members, things I would never have discovered without SALT.

I still remember one adult sharing his story with me. He said that in the past, he was extremely addicted to his phone, spending the whole day gaming, not helping at home, and not supporting his family. But after discovering his strengths through SALT, he gradually changed. He started working, began financially supporting his family, and even took responsibility for sending his younger sister to school. Stories like this truly push me to rethink how much can be achieved when we start recognizing and using our small strengths.

That is why I believe SALT is one of the best approaches to lead a community toward sustainable empowerment.

As a newcomer, I never feel shy or nervous because SALT and CLCP give me confidence. They teach me to believe in people’s strengths, respect them, and grow together. Each session reminds me that every person has immense potential within them, and all that is needed is to recognize and acknowledge it.

Finally, I am grateful that this experience has shown me new ways of learning, sharing, and building community. For me, SALT is not just a method, it is a journey of work, learning, and discovering the inner strengths that lie within us all.

ARC উদ্যোগে নতুন হিসেবে আমি প্রথমবারের মতো SALT-এর সাথে পরিচিত হই। শুরুতে, যদিও আমি একাডেমিক পড়াশোনা এবং বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগে অনেক ধরনের পদ্ধতি শিখেছিলাম, তবুও SALT আমার কাছে একেবারেই ভিন্ন এবং নতুন কিছু মনে হয়েছিল। ধীরে ধীরে অনুশীলনের মাধ্যমে বুঝতে পারি, SALT কেবল একটি পদ্ধতি নয়,এটি শেখার, সম্পর্ক গড়ে তোলার এবং পরিবর্তন আনার এক যাত্রা। SALT মানে হলো Support (সহায়তা করা), Appreciate (কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করা), Listen (মনোযোগ দিয়ে শোনা), এবং Transfer (অন্যের সাথে ভাগ করে নেওয়া)। এর মাধ্যমে আমরা একে অপরের কাছ থেকে শিখতে পারি, আন্তরিকভাবে শুনতে পারি এবং একে অপরের থেকে অনুপ্রেরণা পাই।

যখন কেউ তার স্বপ্ন বা গর্বের মুহূর্ত শেয়ার করে, তখন আমি ভীষণ অনুপ্রাণিত হই। SALT শুধু অন্যদের সাথে যুক্ত হওয়ার বিষয় নয়,এটি একই সঙ্গে আত্ম-আবিষ্কারেরও যাত্রা। মানুষের শক্তি খুঁজে বের করা, তাদের উদ্বুদ্ধ করা, আর তাদের মাধ্যমে কমিউনিটি-নেতৃত্বাধীন উদ্যোগকে সামনে আসতে দেখা আমাকে আরও কাজ করার শক্তি আর উদ্যম জোগায়।

SALT আর CLCP আমাকে শিখিয়েছে কীভাবে একটি কমিউনিটি নিজেদের শক্তি, দক্ষতা আর স্বপ্নগুলো খুঁজে নিতে পারে। এটি মানুষকে তার সক্ষমতাকে কাজে লাগাতে শেখায়, একে অপরের সাথে ভাগাভাগি করতে শেখায় এবং একসাথে সমাধান খুঁজে বের করতে সাহায্য করে। CLCP কমিউনিটিতে আশা, ঐক্য আর উৎসাহ তৈরি করে।

আমি শুধু কোহর্ট স্তরেই নয়, বরং কমিউনিটিতেও SALT কনভারসেশন করার সুযোগ পেয়েছি। এসব অভিজ্ঞতা আমাকে এমন কিছু গভীর উপলব্ধি দিয়েছে, যা আমি কোনোদিন কল্পনাও করিনি। ছোট ছোট বিষয় থেকে শুরু করে বড় স্বপ্ন,কমিউনিটির মানুষের স্বপ্ন, তাদের গর্বের মুহূর্ত আর জীবনের অভিজ্ঞতা সম্পর্কে জানতে পেরেছি, যা হয়তো SALT ছাড়া কোনোদিনই জানা সম্ভব হতো না।

আমি এখনও এক প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক ব্যক্তির কথা মনে করি। তিনি আমাকে বলেছিলেন, আগে তিনি প্রচণ্ডভাবে মোবাইল আসক্ত ছিলেন,সারাদিন শুধু গেম খেলতেন, বাসায় কোনো কাজে সাহায্য করতেন না, পরিবারকেও সাপোর্ট দিতেন না। কিন্তু SALT-এর মাধ্যমে নিজের শক্তি আবিষ্কার করার পর থেকে তিনি বদলে যান। তিনি কাজ শুরু করেন, পরিবারকে আর্থিকভাবে সহায়তা করতে থাকেন এবং এমনকি তার ছোট বোনকে স্কুলে ভর্তি করান। এমন গল্পগুলো আমাকে নতুন করে ভাবতে শেখায়,আমরা চাইলে আমাদের ছোট ছোট শক্তিকেও কাজে লাগিয়ে অনেক বড় পরিবর্তন আনতে পারি।

তাই আমি মনে করি, একটি কমিউনিটিকে টেকসইভাবে শক্তিশালী করে তুলতে SALT অন্যতম সেরা একটি পদ্ধতি।

নতুন হলেও, আমি কখনো লজ্জা বা সংকোচ বোধ করি না, কারণ SALT আর CLCP আমাকে আত্মবিশ্বাস দেয়। এগুলো আমাকে শেখায় মানুষের শক্তিতে বিশ্বাস করতে, তাদের সম্মান করতে এবং একসাথে বেড়ে উঠতে। প্রতিটি সেশন আমাকে মনে করিয়ে দেয়,প্রত্যেক মানুষের ভেতরেই অপরিসীম শক্তি লুকিয়ে আছে, শুধু সেটাকে চিনে নিতে আর স্বীকার করতে হয়।

শেষে আমি কৃতজ্ঞ যে, এই অভিজ্ঞতা আমাকে নতুনভাবে শেখা, ভাগাভাগি করা আর কমিউনিটি গড়ে তোলার সুযোগ দিয়েছে। আমার কাছে SALT শুধু একটি পদ্ধতি নয়,এটি কাজ করার, শেখার এবং আমাদের ভেতরের শক্তি আবিষ্কারের এক অনন্য যাত্রা।
