Deepa Munda: A Charioteer of Dream

In the serene environment of Doldoli Tea Garden, Sylhet, Bangladesh a remarkable story of resilience, passion, and hope unfolds. Deepa Munda, a young and determined football player, who belongs to a tea-worker family has taken it upon herself to coach and inspire some of her own community youth. What makes her journey extraordinary is not just her skill on the field but her unwavering commitment to do something to her community.

Deepa, trains 11 young boys and girls, aged between 10 and 19, completely free of cost. Among her trainees are six girls and five boys, each filled with dreams ignited by Deepa’s mentorship where Deepa’s dream of doing something for her community is ignited by SALT. As Deepa expressed ‘after SALT conversation I’ve realized that I can do something for my community and utilize my strength’

In 2017, Deepa’s football talent earned her a spot on the Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team. However, fate had other plans. Financial hardship and the heavy responsibility of supporting her family after her mother’s untimely death forced her to decline the opportunity. Despite this setback, Deepa chose not to be defeated by circumstances and played.

The field where they train is more than just a patch of grass; it is a symbol of hope and transformation. With every practice session, these young players are learning not only the techniques of the game but also the importance of perseverance and hard work.

As these young athletes lace up their boots and step onto the field, they carry with them Deepa’s hopes and dreams. And perhaps one day, they will stand on national and international stage and Deepa’s journey continues, fueled by her love for football and her desire to uplift her community.
