This is a story shared by the women in the village of Koodaliga, in Dharwad, Karnataka (India).

When a husband and wife died of HIV, their two young children were left orphaned. The other relatives of the children lived very far away and were not interested in taking responsibility for the children. Then a young lady, who was their neighbor, offered to care for the children and rise them. Today, she continues to rise the two children, along with her own . Her volunteering to come forward and caring has deeply touched the other community members.

This instance highlights how the communities have the spirit and the capacity to care for children affected by HIV, and how some individual actions can inspire and move other members in the community.

Dear Murari;

Thanks for this touching and inspiring sharing. Yes I do believing that one enligthened member action could triger another. I really appreciate your story that suggests the young lady's effort to share her individual life and confort with the orphaned. This also very strong signs of gender issues of women taking initiative into public caring.
Keep sharing this inspiring story so more women and men, child and elder to be more active volunteering community for better life of all.

Best Regards from Indonesia
