Want to become a good leader? become a good listener! A good listener respond to advice or a request. Here are two stories of what happens when we don't take time to listen. The first is from a young woman hurt by a manager who constantly cut her off: We expected he would wait and give us answers to serious questions about our work. Many times he walked off when we were in mid sentence, having heard nothing.

The next is from a youth director who was fired: after serving the boss for 3 years, he was called into a board meeting. they took out a list of all the things he had done wrong in the past three years. most of what they said was true, for he was brand new in he work. Then they called for his resignation.  What did he learn? not once did anyone care enough to coach or train him. he had no idea or warning that he was doing anything wrong, the board of directors never built  a relationship with the staff. Why is it so hard for some leaders to listen? Because leaders love to talk and as they gain more authority there is a danger to think they have less reason to listen. Leaders by their very own nature tend to be removed from the front-lines of battle. to succeed, they most constantly listen to those who are in the trenches and rely on that information to make wise decisions.

Being forerunner, makes us as a kind of advance guard.

Yes I agree with you Ukeme! We should always always listen to others, especially if we are a teacher, a parent, a boss... and we should also learn to listen to ourself.
