Today, the Bhatpara Nichhe Line area community came together for a heartfelt SALT meeting filled with warmth, connection, and shared aspirations. The session began with a friendly welcome and simple check-in questions like "How are you feeling today?" and "What good things happened during the day?" This encouraged everyone to share their happy moments, creating a joyful atmosphere. Some attendees found happiness in playing games, others enjoyed peaceful walks in the tea gardens, and many expressed joy from helping out with household chores.
As the group SALT conversation unfolded, powerful stories of pride emerged from each sub-group. The collective strengths of the community shone brightly — in times of trouble, members readily help one another; when someone falls ill, they immediately take them to the hospital. The community is known for giving wise advice to children, showing compassion, selflessness, and care. Moreover, everyone joins hands during religious worships, making sure the puja ceremonies are successful and inclusive.
The meeting then moved towards discussing the dreams of the Bhatpara Nichhe Line area. The youth shared common aspirations and reflected on the efforts they have already made to achieve them, as well as their next steps and ongoing progress. There was a thoughtful conversation about living in harmony and joy within the community and ways to maintain strong bonds with each other.
One prominent desire expressed was to see their village become cleaner. Inspired by this, the community has begun planning cleaning programs to refresh some areas of the village. Additionally, the community has taken proactive steps by submitting documents to the Gram Panchayat office, formally requesting solar lights and better road facilities to improve their surroundings.
The meeting concluded with an Appreciative Inquiry exercise (AER), where participants reflected on the day's positive outcomes. Many appreciated the opportunity to connect deeply with each other and recognized the unique strengths present in the group. Everyone valued having a chance to speak and express their views, noting the punctuality of the Rural Aid team and the community members who, despite busy schedules, made time to attend.
When asked what could have been done better, some suggested that more men’s participation would enrich future sessions. Others acknowledged that while the Rural Aid team arrived promptly, some community members were slightly delayed due to work but committed to improving this next time.
Today’s SALT meeting in Bhatpara Nichhe Line was a beautiful example of community spirit, mutual support, and collective dreaming—planting seeds for a brighter and more connected future.
