Brief Description of The Community Competence Model

"The Community Competence Model is an RBM endorsed approach to mobilizing local community response to malaria, for instance, and comprises of a set of tools including the Self Assessment Framework developed by the Constellation of AIDS Competence that enables managers, planners, local staff and the community to strategically plan for increasing community capacity for a variety of competency areas. As such communities will assess collective competence intervention areas targeted by the project. By planning and setting specific targets on prioritized interventions within agreed time-frame and repeating the self assessment process periodically, improvements in uptake and utilization of health care services, products and health gains can be measured and shared during SALT visit (Support, Appreciate, Learn/listen and Transfer of knowledge/team work) to other communities and districts. This combined with a process for sharing experiences, known as SALT, with others can lead to improvements in effective response."
