The Church's response to AIDS in Southern Africa.
In 2000, the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) AIDS Office was founded as part of an initiative by the health, development and education agencies of the SACBC, including the Catholic Health Care Association of South Africa (CATHCA), the Development and Welfare Agency (DWA) and the Catholic
Institute on Education (CIE).
The AIDS Office funds and supports over 152 projects in support of AIDS work (provides HIV and AIDS prevention and care services, antiretroviral treatment (ART), and care for children affected by HIV and AIDS within their communities) in South Africa, Swaziland, and Botswana and was formerly involved in parts of Namibia and Lesotho.
