Hi Padma,

Lovely Photos and I was so happy when I saw them.  It is so reassuring that there are so many persons who take up the concept of CLCP so close to their  heart and practice it and also get more and more people involved.

Thanks for the sharing

warm regards,

Prabakar

For our belgian CAD we did two activities in one weekend (from 3 to 5 december).
First of all, we gathered a group of 12 asylum seekers and Louis-Marie (the Red-Cross responsible of the center). The aim was to get to know each other and to propose them to become facilitators. Instead of explaining them the CLCP we applied it by asking strengths, making a dream building and starting the self assessment. Their dream was beautiful and very generous, including all the other residents

. For example, they dreamed that every resident could read and write after their stay in the center... They where very enthusiastic about the Process and they will start soon to build teams and find communities.

The 5th, a sunday, our belgian BelCompetence team gathered to make it's own dream... We started to make a dream about our future community (what will your neighborhood be like in several years?) and what did BC to get there?
After the dream, we discovered some practices to get there and we applied them to our own team. For instance, "welcome every new member in the community" became "Welcome every new member in our team"... we talked about our own SALT practice among the group and everyone realized that there were things to improve...
We decided to make a party with the team for the Chinese New Year's eve.
Let's have fun together!

The Guyana Life Competence Team Facilitated a Self-Assessment on Gender Violence and engaged in a Community Conversation on Males and Gender Violence in Guyana on 6th Dec.. The team taught that it was a great experiences being able to able to apply for the first tome the Self Assessment to Gender Violence and justice with Communities. A total of 33 participants asses them selves as a community in the various areas and were able to identify their strengths in which they will be working on a workplace to take action for the nest year also this was done in efforts in the 16 days of activism on Violence against Women, men, girls and boys in Guyana.

The was also a Community Idea Marketplace, where the community members would shear theirs ideas, experiences and project with each other and see how they can link, Learn and support each other on the issues of Gender Violence in Guyana.. This was great idea and the name use as the Knowledge Fair.

Today CARE-SAKSHAM team had yet another Community Action Day with 12 CBOs of FSWs & 4 MSM CBOs. We started with defining five levels and 7-8 practices that would take us to be a full pledged CBO capable of managing their Targeted Intervention. We followed the same process as we did yesterday. I was amazed with the results at the end of the day as we got better and better with practice. Today CBOs did the self assessment on four prioretized practices on systems strengthening 1) NACP-III community mobilisation strategy, 2) Governance and leadership (CBO election systems), 3) Documentation and 4) Community participation in TI management. What some of the CBOs have done better was in terms of working out plan with time lines and who is responsible for each of the action. Surprizing package was quick graphs on depicting current levels and expected levels. It was amazing how quickly the CBOs have learnt the tool and rearing to implement the plans. In four months time from now, we plan to have another meeting with all of these CBOs and repeat this to check the progress. I cant wait for so long.....

Last week, I visited communities in Kindu, at the heart of DR-Congo, in the middle of the forest on the equator.
Since June 40 facilitators have been trained to use the AIDS Competence Process. They facilitated the approach in their own community and transfered it to other communities, 118 in total. So, in Kindu you have police men, beauty parlors, church groups, women groups, fishermen, etc. who all did their self-assessment and action plan.

Today, results are there. Since the approach was introduced,
73.453 people have information about HIV
10.973 people were referred to VCT
49.368 condoms were distributed
58 People living with HIV came out

To celebrate this progress on Community Action Day, the communities all expressed their joy in the form of a song, dance or clap! Have a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-eutiwzmTk

Good luck to all Life Competent communities!

RAPPORT DE LA JOURNEE MONDIALE DU SIDA AU GROUPE SCOLAIRE BILINGUE LES POUSSINS DE NSAPE (GSBPN)
DOUALA - CAMEROUN.

 La restitution des réponses données par les parents se fera chaque Mercredi lors de la réunion du Gouvernement des enfants ;
 Les parents proposent que ce même thème soit repris lors des journées internationales de la femme (8 Mars) et de l’enfant africain (16 Juin) ;

Motion de remerciement adressée aux enfants par un parent pour l’initiative réussie qui les interpellent à un haut degré ; par la même occasion le parent s’engage au nom de tous les parents à suivre les recommandations.

Today CARE-SAKSHAM II team in India had celebrated community action day with twelve CBOs at Hyderabad. Day started with inputs on 'Self Assessment' Tool for systems strengthening to 20 community faculty and 10 mentors. Mentors & Community faculty team were introduced to this tool with some of the daily life practices like washing hands before eating, Driving and condom usage. After they were clear on these practices and five levels, then we moved onto some of the important practices of strengthening the CBOs. Community faculty and mentors team listed about seven to eight broad practices for strengthening CBOs i.e, NACP-III community mobilisation strategy, Governance and leadership (Elections, meetings), Networking and linkages, Community participation in TI management, Documentation and Resource mobilisation. After defining each of these practices and five levels for these practices, mentors were asked to pick up 4 important practices that they would focus on for onsite mentoring in the next four months. Mentors and CFs picked up 1) NACP-III community mobilisation strategy, Governance and leadership (CBO election systems), Documentation and Community participation in TI management as important practices. Then participants divided into ten teams and did self assessment on one of the CBOs they work with for practicing the tool. Teams after completion of the assessment and working out the plans shared with the larger group. Post lunch after the inputs all the ten teams sat with the CBOs present for the CAD, they followed the similar process and did self assessment on three practices. Election systems, Community participation and Documentation. CBOs worked out action plans for the next four months and displayed in the Hall. All the members were asked to take round of tour to see all the plans.

CBOs will go back and implement these plans in the next four months. They are expected to join back at the end of four months to measure the progress. It was an exciting day for me to see twelve CBOs do self-assessment sitting in small groups in the lush green open ground. More because I facilitated the self assessment for the first time.

My colleague Madhav will share the video and photographs in a couple of days. We will be doing CAD with 17 CBOs tomorrow. We are hopeful to do better with today's experience.

On Dec 1st and 3rd ACP Faciliator's in Guyana engage in a Day day community meeting with Cosmologics in Linden a mining community in Guyana on using the SALT method a a way of thinking and working with their community to promote healthy Living and to engage in conversation with their families on various issues especially HIV. They were 16 Participates of which only two were men, however they were very open and shear their dreams and strengths. While doing the hopes and concerns we realized that the women in this session had so much emotions and most of them were abuse or feel left out, four of them were even unable to shear openly cause of the pain and hurt they felt. One said that she is human because her feelings are real......Even though they were it was hard we had fun learning and shearing even dancing with each-other.... This CAD was the best for me cause i felt what the community members had gone through ..... and their greatest strength was Love and understand of each-other.... Smile so happy i got to experienced this on World AIDS Day since i felt so special....

Autry, The persons who are Alcoholics can seek medical attention from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, the Salvation Army and the Phoenix Recovery Programme. Alcoholism is a disease that can be arrested and treated through psychosocial therapy which involves clinical interventions by Social Workers who work with substance abusers. There is also Alcoholic Anonymous AA sessions that are available through the Catholic Relief Services in Guyana.
