David Kpevai from Sierra Leone shared about Community action day. Thanks David!

Dear Rituu,
As I mentioned last, my activity for the commemoration of Community Action Day was a day long meeting with women against infant mortality in their community. The non-disease specific beliefs among the average Sierra Leonean especially the rural tribes and to be specific the Mendes and Konos is the belief that the first born is likely to die 'to give way to other children to come'. The affected mother should not mourn for long as it will prevent the birth of other children.
  Some women have now organized themselves into a concern group who are looking forward to a workshop on issues around cultural beliefs and child death.

I will appreciate comments and suggestions to help these women in their fight against infant mortality in relation to cultural beliefs.

Dear Jeanne,

Thanks for sharing CAD in Congo with school teachers.  Its encouraging to read that when the teachers realised their strengths, they made action plans based on their strengths to improve the functioning of the school.

I have used google translate for non-French speakers like me. We will get a proper translation soon. Look forward to some photos:-)

Congratulations for celebrating CAD second year in a row. Last year it was with school children. Many thanks for your contribution as CAD working group member.

Warmly,

Rituu

Translation

From 8 to 10 September 2011, staff at GSMC Bansambi Mbuji-Mayi, Kasai Oriental, Democratic Republic of Congo met to evaluate their action plans and planning the 2011-2012 school year. Despite problems, the staff of GSMC. BANSAMBI, after realising their strengths forces (this through the technique of watering the flowers) is committed to meeting the challenges of the school for the 2011-2012 school year.

To illustrate below are excerpts from the commitment of staff from which an action plan was developed.
  ■ "Because of my patience and helpfulness, I pledge to maintain a good working relationship with all staff and properly control the documents of my students";
  ■ "Having learned that I am brave, I'll put this here in the service quality of construction, not destruction by having the courage to discuss an issue with colleagues and not to develop the rumor";
  ■ "From two strong qualities that I have, namely, patience and tolerance, I will develop active listening with my supervision, to pick up on mistakes with great respect and above all without hurtful words "◦" listening to my supervisor told me today that I'm helpful, I invest time and energy to do my job, I persevered, despite mental fatigue and / or physical I felt valued because it is the first time he likes me. I never knew I was doing good things ... so I will maintain this pace to achieve our goals by the next school year. "

  • «  De part ma patience et serviabilité, je m’engage à maintenir une bonne collaboration avec tout le personnel et contrôler correctement les documents de mes élèves » ;
  • « Ayant appris que je suis très courageuse, je m’en vais ici mettre cette qualité au service de la construction et non de la destruction en ayant le courage de discuter d’un problème avec les collègues  et non de développer la rumeur » ;
  • « A partir de deux qualités fortes que j’ai, à savoir, la patience et la tolérance, je m’engage à développer l’écoute active avec mes supervisés, de les reprendre sur des fautes commises avec beaucoup de respect et surtout sans mots blessants » ;
    • «  En écoutant mon superviseur me dire aujourd’hui que je suis serviable, que j’investis du temps et de l’énergie pour bien faire mon travail, que je persévère, malgré la fatigue mentale et/ou physique, je me suis sentie valorisée, car c’est la première fois qu’il m’apprécie. Je n’ai jamais su que je faisais des bonnes choses…alors je m’engage à maintenir ce rythme pour atteindre nos objectifs d’ici l’année scolaire prochaine ».
